Ok, having a quite evening in this New Year's Eve, just me and the wife and I fancy putting together a romantic meal for two. Thinking two or three courses.

I will eat pretty much anything, wifey has a more sensitive pallet and will not each most fish, game, especially bambi and shellfish. She is happy to eat chicken, beef, lamb and any pork/pig meat, along with most veg/fruit and pulses/nuts/grains...so...any ideas that can fit in with the above?

Coq au Vin folowed by Tartes au Pommes. Or, even better, ask the OH what she would like. This will increase your chances of a NYE shag 10x.

The problem is the OH just says "come up with something different..."

Can't go wrong with a good rack of lamb. I score the fat, and give a light coating of good quality olive oil. Generously salt and pepper, and the rest is up to you. I like to finely chop up a few sprigs of rosemary, add a bit of dry thyme, and 4 finely chopped garlic cloves. Smother this all over the fat side of the lamb, and roast, 400f, fat side up.

I pull mine out at 137f internal temperature for a perfect medium rare. Around 1/2 an hour.

Perhaps get a jar of goose fat and make some wonderful roast potatoes, and use any drippings from the lamb to make a red wine reduction..
