After years of having cars with Engines barly recognisable(lifted the bonnet once on the scooby put it down and never went back in 3 years) I know have one where I can see how to change the spark plugs.

I feel the need to mess with it in some way So will iridium spark plugs make a difference or is it a waste of money?

They will only make a difference if you read Max Power!!

Seriously though, the engineers at Honda know what they are doing when it comes to designing engines and it is highly unlikley that you fitting some different spark plugs will improve on what they have already done, especially in a car as highly tuned as a Type R.

Only benefit: they last longer, compared to an original decent design (as mentioned before).
Your choice....
