Vaillant Boiler Help Needed

I have a Vaillant EcoTec 824 condensing combi boiler installed in my new house, together with a Honeywell CM61ng Wireless Controller and I'm having a major issue with it, hopefully one of our resident CH experts can help?

Basically despite the fact that the unit appears to be set to come on for 1hr in the morning and 1hr in the evening, as soon as I press the auto button on the RF unit the heating switches on, no matter what time of day it is.

This means that I cannot leave the heating in auto mode, as it's just wasting gas.... the Worcester Bosch in my old house operated perfectly, but I can't see what the issue is here.....HELP

These stats don't have "on" and "off" periods, they have different temperature settings for different times.

So when you have set it to the so called "off" period, have you lowered the target temperature enough? Could be that even though you don't want the heating on, it is still trying to achieve the target temp.

They are ussually set something like this:

6:30 - 8:30 @ 21oC
8:30-12:00 @ 15oC

Could be the temperature value of the second setting, which would ussually be the "off" setting, is to high.

Also, after a bit of looking round the net, these controllers have optimum start, which will switch the heating on earlier to try and reach the target temperature for exactly when you set it.

So instead of it starting at 6:30 and gradually warming up to 21oC, it will bring it on at 6:00, so it is 21oC at 6:30. You should be able to turn this off.

That makes sense I suppose...... don't suppose you know how to change the temperatures for the period where the heating is timed to be off?

I've read the user manual for the controller, but it seems to be geared more toward the technical installer than the user, no mention of setting times or changing temperatures.

If it's like the Vaillant one I have, you'll have a "sun" and a "half dark circle" symbol. Press them and then use the +/- keys to set the temp you want in either "day" or "night" mode.

My other half cannot for the life of her get her around this type of system!
