We've got the kids a ride on for Christmas, it's a 12v job.

Two questions

1. I'm really struggling to find a spare battery for it, so is there anywhere in particular that sells them?

2. What would happen if I wired up a car battery in there? (assuming it fits?) I presume the amps would blow the motors?

Cheers

1. get the spec. of the original battery and do a search on line. Lots of places that sell sealed lead/acid batteries, NiCads etc.
2. If you can fit a car battery not a problem. The motors will draw the current they require. It's the voltage that counts in this case. A car battery will probably give a significant life per charge cycle compared to the original.

Don't know what it is but surely the manufacturer should sell spares?

We've got a 'Peg Perego' Jeep that used a 'special' battery which was crap and when it failed would have been expensive to replace, I fitted a larger car battery to it and it runs for much longer on a charge - causes no damage as it's still only 12v.

Just found them.

So, assuming I get 12v, I can put a bigger one in? Perfect, just got to work out how to get the connectors off the installed one to put on a new one.

A motorbike battery is more likely to fit.

If you mean 'bigger' as in, higher Ah rating, then yes.

Put a motorbike or small car battery in if it'll fit, you'll get hours of battery life this way. Then charge it with a decent car battery charger as you would a normal car.

The only reason the manufacturers don't do this is cost.

Small 12V battery cost price (confidential wink) about $5, car battery about $25.

You may find Maplins a bit expensive, but you can pick one up locally if you have a store nearby.

cpc.co.uk will be cheaper, but you have to buy online, and pay shipping (unless you spend £50+).

HTH.

Cheers Maser thumbup

I'm going to work out how to get the casing off the existing one, and fit as big a battery as possible.

No worries thumbup

cpc should give dimensions of batteries.

This is cheap and cheerful, should give at least an hour's use.

The alternative is to fit a pair (or more) in parallel (not series or it'll all go pop!), which may make squeezing them in a bit easier.

I had somebody fit four batteries in to one of our toy cars, he was getting a whole day's use from a long, long charge!
