Question about LG pq6000 plasma
Discussion
Bought one of these a couple of months back and there's something starting to niggle me a bit. When i bought the TV a lot of TV,s had all their specs blazened all over the shiny stickers on them, most tv,s in the row i was looking at were 100HZ tv's.Then i saw the sticker on the LG pq6000 and it said 600hz!.Now i'd done a fair bit of research before buying and this was like an extra little spec that swung it for me,i thought if it 'states' 600HZ,then it must be at the least 100HZ,surely!.Lately i noticed, and i don't know how i haven't noticed this before but if i press 'OK' on the remote to get the channel details on the screen,at the top left i noticed in small print '50HZ'!!!I was a bit miffed,so are these TV,s only 50HZ or not?
Firstly, this 600Hz is just meaningless really. It's designed to catch your eye in the shop and make you pick that particular set over another.....as the number is bigger, so it must be better!!
And it obviously worked on you.
It's marketing speak. All plasma's work at a higher refresh-rate than LCD's. Which is why plasma's are better for fast-motion content.
Newish LCD's are either 120Hz or 240Hz and some 480Hz models are in the pipeline.
Secondly, the 50Hz figure you saw by pressing the info button, is the refresh-rate of the TV broadcast and is nothing to do with your panel's refresh-rate. If you delve into your panel's menu, you may be able to double the refresh-rate of TV broadcast's to 100Hz, if it makes you feel any better.

I have an LCD LG and get similiar info when i press the OK button. I note that it varies depending on what source i am watching at the time eg if watching TV the info given is not that impressive. However it automatically becomes more impressive if i watch a DVD or a Blu-ray. Does the info change when you are viewing different sources?
