Why not just buy a 240 volt inverter and plug into car cigarette lighter? What is it you want to run?

VW do a 230v outlet as a factory fit option on some models, but looking at the photo from the online configurator, it's a 2-pin socket:

We do this from the 12v auxiliary socket in the boot.

Ford Kuga had it as an option, has been dropped now, though (not sure why).

So you can get one, thanks smile
Just check the lead is long enough to reach the nearest plug, though.

I bought an inverter that wires onto the battery and fed it through the car to underneath the passenger seat.

Ditto on the Baja and SJ for both rallies, very useful!

The wierdo anorak types need 240V so they can plug their data logging and re-mapping laptop in.

I hope I can spec one of these next time I buy a car, then I can finally have my dream car (Which is any car with a Baby Belling instead of a passenger seat).

Yeah, I went for the combination microwave / grill instead.

Sorry to burst bubbles, but that VW option of 150W on 230v ain't gonna cook your breakfast.
A typical £80-120 table-top cooker with hot-plate, grill & oven, requires 2900W.
Admittedly, 2900W might be all bits running at once, but you get my drift?

My Braun rechargeable toothbrush uses just 1.3W, so that would be OK; as would be an electric razor.
So critically, you're constrained by the 150W, (check your devices for current/power-draw on the 230v—it should be printed on the charger or power-supply label).

Having said all that, all the ones I've become aware of (VW, AUDI), are EuroPlug 2-pin sockets, and they DO NOT accept our unique UK BS4573 'shaver' 2-pin plugs. The pins are spaced differently, and the UK pins are thicker than the Europlug ones.
[You can get a UK-Shaver to Europlug Adapter, though, for low-power devices that use 2-pin plugs].
Typically, these are Class II double-insulated, and as such, require no earth wire/connexion.

Trying to connect UK Class I devices that require an earth, is inviting disaster, not least because the equipment won't be earthed, but also because it will probably be trying to draw more current than the supply-wires can handle, and burning out…

If you really need to charge iPads on 230v etc., play safe and buy an additional European Class II charger that will fit the car's EuroPlug socket.

Vauxhall Mokka has it as an option. It was in the boot.

Is that too a 2-pin EuroPlug socket?
