Quantum dampers
Discussion
Has anyone tried these on an Elise or Exige yet? I understand that they are a well regarded company, but they are relatively new to this market, especially compared to the well established Nitron. Has anyone got first-hand experience?

track-club have promised me a set for my Exige as soon as they are available, I'm getting the two ways fitted and set up (http://www.track-club.com/performanceCentreIntro.aspx) hopefully late Jan early Feb.
I've got mates in Japan and the US who have used Quantum and the general view is that they are second to nothing. I'll report back when they are done. I think track-club are planning on running some cars in the Elise Trophy with them.

We will be running these on two Elise R's in the 2010 Elise Trophy series.

On the basis that nitrons have won virtually every lotrdc race to date i think they have very little to proove... That said, they will be getting better still through 2010 and I expect them t remain top of the pile. :-

If anyone wants to PM me then please do. I read this as Quantum singles are better than Nitron singles?
This being the case are they £500 or 33% better than one way Nitrons? And, more to the point, will I as a track day novice/intermediate, notice the difference in an S2 Exige?

The Nitron has a clear advance about setup for elise, they have the years and the numbers for them.
But, Quantum might really become good, as sorry to tell it, but there are series where they are really very highly rated, and i think that if asked out of the Lotus circle, quantum will actualy have a better reputation than Nitron.
In F3 for exemple, they seem to be by far more popular choice than Nitron, and in Mini Racing, they are also really the things to have.
I certainly believe the Nitron are good, but i also truly thing that in the Lotus comunity there is a bit a "trend" effect which has given them the position they have now.

Nothing misleading, all fact. Anyway, as you know, I like the Quantums (I have two sets on Group-C cars) and I would use them if Nitron didn't exist, but the bulk of the Elise specific work has gone into the Nitrons and there will be MUCH more work in 2010. You know me you old git, no way I'm going to have anything other than the best dampers :-)

that's a little miss-leading... As far as I know, only one car has ever run Quantum Dampers in LOT vs. just about everybody else running Nitrons (including me).21TonyK said:

The one that did however, seemed to have the leg's of the field by coming 2nd overall at Oulton (2007) in a class B car (only beaten by you in a class C car).

Stand corrected, not £500, only a couple of hundred between them. At the moment This being the case are they £500 or 33% better than one way Nitrons? And, more to the point, will I as a track day novice/intermediate, notice the difference in an S2 Exige?

Those are all fair comments. From my experiences with dampers, most of the top brands offer similar capabilities and from there it's all about how they are setup and valved. I would say that Quantum's first stab at Lotus valving was pretty bloody good, better than Nitron's first stab but then after 6 or so years of development I've got the Nitrons working phenomenally well to the point where I rarely touch them and I've stuck to the same valving setup for quote some time now. Having Quantums widely available is great for the community as a whole though as it means more competition pushing the products forwards and you will see myself and Nitron pushing hard this year to make sure we remain in the number one spot. But, Quantum might really become good, as sorry to tell it, but there are series where they are really very highly rated, and i think that if asked out of the Lotus circle, quantum will actualy have a better reputation than Nitron.

Simon, is there any way to contact u directly to have bit more infos about Quantum as i ve read you have used them on the Aussie cars u prepared.
thanks.
If you want info on them you may want to start by emailing Geary at Eliseparts as he's the distributer for the Lotus specific dampers. He'll be able to answer most of your questions and then if you want to know some really technical/geeky stuff, then I'm sure Simon will help. thanks.
I've been using the same 2 way dampers on my S1 Exige as the Aussie guys for a few months now, which I'm running in Time Attack. They really are an amazing damper and I'm still to get the best out of them with some small changes. You will not be dissapointed!!!
As said, use Eliseparts as your first port of call.
(if you have a specific question, contact me via my profile.)
oh, and as you mentioned them, latest video from the Kirrapak boys:
