So when/if these cards come out and I get stopped by the cops without one will " I was distracted by my baby so forgot" get me off scott free?

"Red-faced Minister Meg Hillier forgets her identity card for Liverpool roll-out

IDENTITY Minister Meg Hillier was left red-faced in Liverpool as she arrived at a photocall to promote identity cards - but left her own at home.

She travelled to the city to announce a further roll-out of the controversial identity cards across the North West.

The former journalist and mother patted herself down and checked her handbag for the missing card before putting the slip-up down to the demands of looking after her baby.

She then posed in front of the city’s landmark Liver Buildings alongside the vast River Mersey without her card.

The MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch made the journey from London to Liverpool by train yesterday, ahead of the official announcement made by the Home Secretary today."

Wonder if she made it because of a short list. If she was on one it must have been very short indeed.

Yes, but for how long when they are brought in.

Never mind that, she only had one fking job, take her card so she could promote it.

And she forgot. Says a lot about the type of people we have at the 'top'

If she was such a big fan of it she would carry it in her purse/ handbag everywhere

Yes voluntary, but the government will make it so hard to live a normal life without one that it becomes impractical not to have one.

Indeed, that's the socialist idea of what 'voluntary' means you see.

One of CMDs only decent policies is to consign the ID card to history.

It'd be very naive to think it wouldn't go from voluntary to compulsory at some point.

When I worked airside they were going to be compulsory for such workers. Maybe Unions can do more than wreck their own companies:

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that and I didn't realise it had been dropped.

Shirley the government won't be the government long enough to make it that difficult.

Or Voluntary in the sense that you can not have one but when your photocard driving license expires or your passport expires you get the chance to opt out of the biometric card at the expense of your replacement not running for 20 years rather than 10, well I doubt my fingerprints, iris and DNA will have changed as much as the photo.

Id pros and cons aside.

do none of you find it shameful that she forgot the bloody card?

If you were her employer and she a saleswoman trying to sell something and she turned up to a promotion without the product would you say Oh well its one of those things, we'll get em next time love.

for god sake, you wake up, see you are going to promote ID cards the very first thought would be I'll get my ID card.

It must be just me who finds this level incompetance staggering?

do you think she would last 10 minutes in another job? or am I being too harsh?

Doh I thought so!!!!
Yep you really get the best when you force people to choose

"In 2004 Hillier was selected as the Labour candidate to contest the Hackney South and Shoreditch through a controversial All-Women Shortlist."
