(yes i am flipping boring but..)
i am a bit addicted to rightmove and keep looking at all the villages where i nearly bought just so i can feel that classic british-style pain of remorse when a really awesome house comes for sale for fvck all.

anyway it led me to start the HOW MUCH? thread. the thread where you can post uphouses with apparently mental asking prices. you must support your posts with evidence of some kind.! please not too many Foxtos properties - it's just too easy! ;-)

Could well be the sellers you know. Maybe they bought at the peak and need as much cash as possible! The estate agent will suggest what they should sell at but of course the seller has the last word. The put it up for £600k+ and hope that someone bites, but if it is well above the acceptable, no one will. Dont worry about it - houses sell when they are priced right. Otherwise they don't. Will always be plenty of houses that don't sell....

I'm confused.

I just did a search on rightmove for 4+ bedroom houses in a 3 mile radius around Hartwell. If anything, the one you listed seems to be very competitively priced.

That's a nice place! Seems a bit of a bargain considering the amount I've just spent on my first place, which is a 1 bedroom apartment (Although it is nice!) ...

it flipping isn't!

have you sen the back garden yard? don;t get me wrong it's quite a nice house but all the others have much better plots etc. maybe it does have a niche (nice house, crap plot, medium high price). i gues if one needs a 6 bed house then there is no real choice but..i'd say it was at least 100 grand over what it should be though.

We have new houses in a similar style 'mock cottagey' development down the road by the river.

While they are nice houses in a nice setting, the prices are obscene for what you get. £450k for a 3 bed detached house that has a garden the size of a toilet cubicle front and rear and a lounge that people who walk past can see right into as they are so close to the pavement. No drives in some cases too. Yet people go wild for them...

that's the thing with this one - they clearly had to make choice between garden and drive/garage so they've put garage in back garden!

surely if you;ve got a 6 bed house and a double garage you want a reasonable garden (room for the generic trampoline if nothing else! ).

Hmm, nice(ish) to look at, probably not all that nice to live in I would imagine. Seems very cold and has no character whatsoever. I've seen nicer houses (well, they appeal to me) for well under 1/4 of the asking price.

I love the look of it but don't know if I could live in it.

With my 3 kids, dog and a cat it would be trashed in a week.

The views are stunning but the nearest coast is either Rhyl or Prestatyn both of which make Blackpool look tasteful!

Put it futher down the Llyn Penninsula or towards Aberdovey and I would think about it as a holiday home

Indeed, for that money you could have something old, with lots of land and game. Something I would be fare more interested in. In fact, not too far from that is this:

Looking on goole maps, it has a shared drive, small garden and is opposite an industrial slum.

in my dad's town there's a very very normal 4 bed90s house up for offeres over £400k. fvck off. you could get that same house in say towcester (equiv town) for say late 400s. from where you can travel to somewhere where you can actually earn enough to pay the mortgage required...!

as you say the llyn peninsular is a different kettle of fish to rhyl!

even that's got too hot IMO. just how many mancs and scousers actually want to sail..?!

North Wales has some lovely properties and it's actually are rather nice place to live. The mountains, coast and close commuting distance to Cheshire / Manchester make it a refreshing change from down south, however as mentioned, Rhyl is a bit of an armpit and in true PH style could do with being nuked from orbit.

The Llyn Peninsula is lovely, but it's just too far from the real world for it to be a viable place to live permanently for me. Conwy or even Llandudno are nice enough if you want the coast and you're still only 1.5 hours from Manchester.

oh don't get me wrong i agree with all that and enjoyed growing up there but all i am saying, in a tonker stylee, is that somewhere can be very nice with nice houses and nice lots of stuff but if there aren;t the jobs then things can;t sensibly be worth a lot of money.

it must be hard sittinf at home in st asaph watching location location location and seeing st houses in Reading being worth what they're worth given that you'll get stabbed but then again how many jobs to Oracle offer in Colwyn Bay?! Are microsoft relocating to Corwen? UBS starting up in Denbigh?

The Dyserth house is one of my clients. Incredible views but the drive is a 3/4 mile long bumpy dirt track just about wide enough for 1 car . You would be looking at another small fortune to tarmac or pave

if you read the post - i have linked to gogle maps. that 'industrial' (was apparently actually all farm storage with a classic haulage company) area has now been built on for resi (that's how i know you could be a very similar (albeit a bit smaller with only single garage) house for a LOT less.. ) in fact if i'd wanted a house with not enough parking, no front garden, a single garage and the utility room in the wrong place, but with views over fields) i could have bought it in the summer for 310k..! which is why, even though this is nicer, bigger and slightly more unique, i can't see it being worth ANYWHERE near the asking price...! i lived in an end of terrace house worth 220k in hertfordshire with a significantly larger garden than this!

anyway come on more examples!

if anyone is feeling christmassy and positive we can open it up to bargains as well if you like..!
