Hi Ben,

I am writing to let you know that one of your photos has been short-listed for inclusion in the tenth edition of our Schmap Liverpool Guide, to be published mid-January 2010.

http://www.schmap.com/shortlist/p=31762462N08/c=SN...

While we offer no payment for publication, many photographers are pleased to submit their photos, as Schmap Guides give their work recognition and wide exposure, and are free of charge to readers. Photos are published at a maximum width of 150 pixels, are clearly attributed, and link to high-resolution originals at Flickr.

Best regards,

Emma Williams,
Managing Editor, Schmap Guides

Benjc's Response:

Ummmm - It is a little bit worrying that the Managing Editor of a travel guide thinks that this image is of the Albert Dock in Liverpool.

This image is of the VICTORIA and Albert dock in Cape Town (as per the image title).

Last time I looked there wasn’t a chuffing great mountain shaped like a table in Liverpool.

Feel free to include the picture though as it may make Liverpool more attractive to mountain climbers and those wanting a view of the 12 Apostles.

Let them use it and when it's published - tell them that it's not where they think it is...

...and they would also be wrong.

It's the Victoria and ALFRED Waterfront. www.waterfront.co.za

I used to live there, and got bored the number of times I had to explain why it was named as such to idiot tourists.

Well I'll be - I hadn't noticed the mistake - not all her fault then!

Even so - the mountain should have given it away.

I have a number of images (mainly of African cities) on Wikipedia which I donated use of, and have since been appropriated by travel websites all over the place.
Funny really, as they were just my snaps to remind me of my time there. Now they appear to be becoming "library" stock pictures for travel sites and even some news stories.

I had a Disney World/Florida image used - it felt quite good at the time smile
