I'm having a chap in to measure and quote for a uPVC door this afternoon and was wondering on a guide price.

1) Half glazed at top with clear glass, white on the inside, woodgrain inside, catflap, fitting.

Or:

2) As above but stable door.

What I'd really like is a door that opens outwards (the current one opens inwards) where the top half is actually a window opening outwards with friction hinges - but is this impossible for technical resaons?

They did show me one and it was quite nice but about double the price, and it was a front door. I got the impression that composite doors are front doors (ie decorative, woodgrain etc) but I don't need anything that fancy. Was my assumption correct?

I'd say your right, I don't think I'd spalsh out for a composite back door.

The current door is wood. I love wood but for things exposed to the elements, it's not sensible. Unless it's an oak front door of course!

I'd get 3 or 4 quotes avoiding the very dear (Tall Mountain Co) & the very cheap (7 windows & a couple of doors for 2k type outfit) & go from there.

Well, on the assumption that one half glazed uPVC kitchen door (woodgrain outside, white inside with chrome handles and catflap) is much the same as any other half glazed uPVC kitchen door (woodgrain outside, white inside with chrome handles and catflap) I've ordered it and it'll be fitted in January smile

For a front door I would of course cast the net a lot wider and spend more.

Well if you can deliver to Essex, we can talk when I'm ready to replace the front door smile
