Exige Wing...Old v New
Discussion
Thinking of getting back into an Exige soon.
What are peoples thoughts on the new style wing?
Any current owners wish to comment on how practical it is for putting bags in the boot?
I think im swaying towards the older wing but wondered what others thought.

I had the old style wing (2006 car) and am getting a new one (new style wing) this weekend. As far as I can tell, the boot space and the aperture are unchanged in size, so if you could get stuff in the old boot then you should be able to get the same kit into the new one.
However the new wing *does* get in the way and make filling the boot more awkward. I don't think that things you used to get into the old boot won't now fit in the new one, it's just that you have to lift the items over the new spoiler in order to put them in the boot.
The new spoiler is likely to get scratched a lot as a result, so bunging Ventureshield or similar protective film on the wing is a must really.
One other thing - the engine cover itself only clears the new wing by a millimetre or so! If your fingers are holding the engine cover as you raise it, you'll trap them between the engine cover and the wing, potentially rather painful...

Commenting as an S1 Exige owner, which suffers the same affliction as the new MY10 cars (fixed rear wing), it certainly makes loading the boot a hassle, you have to pretty much load the boot from the side around the wing, as there's no way it's possible over it, unless you're talking very light, small things. And the same problem occurs with finger jamming if you're not careful.
I never found my wing getting scratched or anything, but then I was always very careful.

As per the other posts, have had a car with the old wing and now have a 2010 MY car and as cyberface has said the boot and the aperture are the same size its just a bit more awkward to put things in over the wing on the 2010 car. Haven't really found it a problem at all but them again don't really carry much in the boot and usually if I do its in a few small soft bags so don't envisage any real problems. Not sure I'd like to take the battery out though!
Ian if you buy another one your going to bloody tempt me back to Lotus you sod! I havent really had a close look at the new one yet to see what the wing looks like, from pictures i think the old style looks far better although the my2010 car looks tremendous from the front. Thniking orange again or bright green?

You's two need some non-car-related financial commitments, changing your cars so often. Get yourself a mortgage/wife/kid/pet to support and stop showing off.Evl...think of your wedding you need to be saving for
Tony...think of the startup business man.
(Not in the slightest bit jealous
)Edited to add... old wing looks best.

I prefer the old wing, the new wing looks like it has come of a Subaru
and the old one looks like it came from air-fix!the old one was totally pointless, did nothing useful and just added (yet more) pointless weight to the car.

Agree entirely on your point re: the old one - sadly though it looked good and allowed easy boot access (good) - it flapped about and was obviously a cosmetic item.
If the new one is *also* a cosmetic item then it's even heavier (it's bigger), plus it impedes access to the boot. Double bad...

You swapped the yellow Exige for a Noble, didn't you - I used to have an old M12, cracking cars but I need my toy to be *usable* if needs be, and the Noble has *zero* luggage space. At least the Exige has a real, usable boot.
My dream car is pretty much the Exige with Noble performance. I thought the Noble handled well until I tried the Exige - all it needs really now is the power and the soundtrack from the Noble - otherwise I reckon the Exige beats the Noble. That's the reason for my fantasy posts about Elises with 3-cylinder engines, compact V6s, etc. Simon's blown Honda implementation certainly delivers the power requirement but not, IMO, the soundtrack...
Would be interested in your thoughts having owned both like me
- though your Noble is presumably a lot faster and better developed than mine was (early-ish 2.5 litre car with the atmo dump valves near your ears - chavtastic but excellent
)And yes, that photo is still wallpaper on one of my many screens
Funny how I've gone from yellow to orange
But this time I've got the harness seats and the AP racing brakes - had AP brakes on the Noble and found them easy to lock with little feedback, haven't driven the Lotus implementation yet so hope it's a lot better...The Noble is awesome, its got brutal power delivery which I love. It doesnt feel as chuckable as the Exige did though and I think its a bit heavier than Noble make out but its great fun to drive, I had similar feelings about the brakes until I got used to them, the lack of ABS on such grabby brakes did end with me locking up on a few occassions and you have to be really careful in wet conditions when braking heavy although mine wasnt used in the rain unless it was unexpected, normally garaged up if the weathers rough.
The Exige and Nob were mainly used as weekend cars but ive started my own business up now so need an everyday car hence why the Noble is up for sale. Im hoping it will go to a good home and be looked after well as its a cracking example and as your probably aware unmolested tidy examples are becoming harder to find. Im with you on the Lotus engine front, the yota 4 cylinder lump suits the Lotus very well but i've never been the biggest fan of 4 cylinder engines and although not even in the same league my old Boxster had a nice howl to it and getting the Noble made me realise how much I missed a nice sounding engine instead of just exhaust noise (although fun). I think the easiest way to sum the Noble and Exige up is that when i first jumped in the Lotus it installed lots of confidence and you could drive it relatively fast even though it was your first drive..the Noble is a great handling car but it takes a bit longer to get used to it, i find it can give you a feeling that its just thinking about going sideways then im guessing the LSD settles itself and it tightens back up again and you realise its capable of so much more..a lot more than I can reach in spirited road driving. As an all round occasion and as a drivers car the Lotus takes some beating.
