stuff seen at PRI
Discussion
Guys: Just returned from PRI in Orlando. I must come see the racing car show in Birmingham some year. Here goes, RHS which is part of Comp Cams showed its new cast LS block lots of technical upgrades to the GM spec, but not a billet so less than 50% of the cost of a DART block. Spoke with Michael Quaife of Quaife Engineering, very nice fellow, knows the cars well and indicated that they have something comming to market in 4-5 months which will be more inline with the horsepower fiqures normaly speced in an Ultima. C and R Racing have done an alloy racditor for Eddie Hills car they will be quoting me with a price shortly. I AM NOT A SUPERCHARGER LOVER that said I saw a supercharger by Harrop Performance that was very attractive. if you go to thier web site at harropperformance.com you will see the specs on it, be advised that the pulley shown on the front can be eliminated. the manifold can be reversed to face towards the back of the car with the drive than coming off the oppisite end, inline with the normal pulleys. The whole affair is very low profile might fit in a Can Am and includes a internal intercooler. Hope this may be of some value to one of you. Lee
Do you mean

They are local to me, do a lot of custom stuff with the V8 race teams around hear.
second hand commodore cars come up on the market all the time with different supercharged engines. often go to the shoes and see people running their stuff as well.

Driver: I gave my catalog to my engine builder but I remember that the RHS block has 6 head bolts on it, I think. The LSX block weighs 220 pounds the RHS weighs 110 pounds unless a guy was building a purpose built very high boast motor thats a lot of weight in the back end of an Ultima. Lee
Cheers gent's well Im hoping to shave the 220lbs down just a little with boring and a few other bits but yes it's having a bit of boost and a couple of tweeks...hence the iron spec.
Its not too pressing right now but over the coming month's any hot news on good quality 6bolt heads (2.20/1.60) would be well appreciated.
rgds,
Dave.

The RHS block will probably match the LSX block for holding boost/power. Its not the block matterial thats the problem its keeping the bloody heads down. VA Speed seem to have the best solution at the moment as they are double O-Ringing the block/heads. This has proven to hold over 1700bhp on STCOK LS2 sleaved block (there was some block filler in there though)! with a set of thick sleaves in there they could have pushed the block alot further. Also by o-rining the heads/block you dont need the 6 bolt setup until you are really pushing the limits. If you are really after 6 bolt heads then the Warhawk block might be another option. Alhough there where some issues with these block dropping the linders once the engines where built. Aslo the liners aren't the longest. Nelson used the Warhawk for the 1800bhp Mosler MT900 they built. But they swapped the sleaves out for longer ones. Also you could get tabs welded on to the heads & blcok of a LS2 for a little extra clamping force. Cheers,
Chris.
