xbox 360 wireless adaptor

Hi,
I have an xbox 360 which now has a microsoft wireless adaptor on the back,
the problem is connecting because in my house we have a tp link wireless hub which on the xbox.com website is not a compatible one but is also not on the non-compatible list.
We have tryed connecting even to the point of taking my xbox downstairs for a better signal (this didnt work
) i was just wondering what i am doing wrong and if people could help i believe our phone line is BT.

Phone line makes no difference, Probably time for a new router.
