Hello everyone. Well, its taken me 19 years to get my act together, and this year I will be treating myself to a Ferrari 550. I've loved Ferrari's since I can remember, but the 550 is just understated elegance. Its beautiful. I simply cant wait - I've purposefully never been in a Ferrari because I want to experience it all at once, when its mine.

Anyway. Where on earth do you start when looking for a car? There are so many combinations, so many potential faults and issues to look out for. Do you buy from a dealer or go private? What do you look for to make sure theres no big cash surprises waiting a couple of weeks into it.

Once I've bought it, just how reliable and expensive to run would this car be? Do you people just use them as "toys", once a week for example?

Any real-life experiences of Ferrari ownership would be brilliant. I cant wait, I'm thrilled and yet I'm 6 months away from getting it.

I believe their was a recent article in a car magazine about buying used supercars. One of the cars listed was a 550. They mentioned to check if new window mechanicals were put in. It was a warranty item and corrected alignment problems. If it has not been done, it is several thousand to correct.

I will check my magazines. It might have been in EVO.
