Hi,

Why do some C5s have that extra "slash" on the doors that divides the "scoop" shape (do these things have propert terms by the way?!) and other C5s don't. Is it an option? Or standard but only on some years? Think I best get the latest Black Book!Mine only goes to '95.

Cheers guys!

The BSMs (Body Side Mouldings) have historically been the cheapest option on all model year C5s. They are the single item guaranteed to arouse most passionate argument amongst C5 owners. There are two diametrically opposed camps, those who love them and those who hate them. The two groups are of equal size.

I belong to the 50% who wouldn't have them anywhere near their car ! You can remove them quite easily with no damage to the car by using some stout fishing line...

My views are exactly the same as te51cle; definite no no. C5 has such smooth contours it seems wrong to fuss it up with side mouldings.

I think they ruin the lines of the car!

The good news is if you buy a car with them and don't like them, you can allegedly remove them with the heat from a hair drier!

Couldn't agree more. I can't understand how they ever got to the options list!

Blimey guys - such emotion. I'm just glad mine hasn't got them but if it did, I would be ripping them off as we speak.
Oops, just noticed that the car I am currently chasing has them on - better get that fishing line and hairdryer ready.

A survey in the US showed that the side moldings are prefered by those under 45 years of age and disliked by those over 45..... Anyone want to change their opinion?

Nope, and this is a good page if you want to start comparing the two: www.chevrolet.com/corvette/

I used to say I'll never be old enough to drive a M**r**d*s.
Now I can just say I'll never be old enough for side moldings!
