Final thoughts before I buy........

Hi,

I have been planning to move into the DSLR segment for a while now, and after a few shop visits and internet research, I have come up with the following.

Canon EOS 500D with an EF-S 18-55 mm IS Lens Kit, 8g SDHC card and an EF 50mm f1.8 II lens.

It is a small enough DSLR, I think, to use as 'family' camera for general use etc. I also plan to go off for the occasional wander for landscape/wildlife shots in the future and would consider adding another lens or two.

My wife is a fan of videoing - clips and special occasions etc as oppose to epics, and the ability of the 500D to record in HD looked an advantage. I am aware that 1080p @ 20fps is hardly fit for purpose, but the 720p swayed me towards the Canon rather than the Nikon range at this price point.

Any thoughts or dire warnings before I press 'click'?!

Its a great camera, and the kit lens is moer than usable, the 50/1.8 is fun & sharp (if cheaptastic).

Not convinced about the video abilities of SLR's in the hands of amatures tho, focus is tricky and handholding isnt easy.

500D does everything pretty well have fun.
