Hi guys

I've been dong a fair bit of photography over the past year or two and was thinking about setting up my own website-I already have Facebook and photobucket to share my images but would quite like my own site. Does anyone on here have one and who would they reccomend for hosting?

I'd ideally like something that I can add more features as time goes on-the ability to sell pics online and watermarks to keep my copyright to the pics intact.

The type of photographs varies-some glamour, modelling comps, motorsport, mountain bking and landscape. Whatever takes my fancysmile Quality is improving all the time but I still have along way to go-I'm very self critical which I find a good thing.

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers

Brian

Hi brian

I use clikpic which is a good site. You can fine tune the site to ur preferences, has a watermark function and is only 35 bucks a year smile

If you want to keep the copyright I suggest you remove the images from Facebook.

I only ever upload low res versions of my pics to Facebook or Photobucket, I'd like to have even them watermarked though.

I never upload my photos to facebook, or whatever book or the BBC, as they take the copyright. I have had enough problems even uploading links to MY site via PH, as they (at one stage) wanted the copyright to any linked image.

Get your own webspace and own your own photography ASAP

Hi Brian, like you I wanted to set up my own website for ages and dithered about a fair bit. I was scared off from getting it done professionally by the price, especially as I already have a full time job. Then I went into pc world and bought a mr site package for £30. I know nothing about computer programming, url's and stuff like that but I have successfully created 2 websites for my own photography very easily. For the £30 I have my own dotcom names for twelve months - www.racinggreenphotography.com and www.gardenlifephotos.com after which I pay about £3 a month to keep them .Each has about 400 photos on each, I can (but don't) watermark my pics, add a shop with paypal facillity, run a forum etc. They are very easy but if you are doing it as a hobby then expect it to take up some of your spare time as there is a lot to do. The £30 box lets you have about 50 pages, the £90 box lets you have 500 and a lot more back up and goodies. Feel free to have a look at mine and see what you think, but bear in mind that I am not a pro web designer or photographer (just a simple gardener me). Now is a good time to think about websites as its all long dark nights for a while longer.I now there is a least one photographer in the links pages here who has a mr site site as well. Good luck. Mark

I use Photium; very pleased with it and the "sales" functions are very easy to configure.

Cheers for the advice guys. Photium and clikpic look like the two choices-a friend of mine already uses photium and is happy with it-[shameless plug mode]some ofmypics are on here-www.ksgphotography.co.uk[/shameless plug mode] he has the top package though which would be more than i'd need to start with anyway.

I think I'll build up my portfolio a bit more-it's getting better but I've a long way to go. I covered a modelling competition last night and out of nearly 500 pictures 190 were good-a pretty good ratio I thought.

I'll also need to think about a domain name and website design so I'll not be rushing into it just yet.

Brian

ETA Racing green it's sites like yours which make me realise how far I have to go to be a good photographer!!!

Cheers Brian, but I am only a gardener by trade. Good point to think about domain name, mine took ages and Iwanted something that could easily be identified with what I do. Good luck mate
