When starting the car from cold (like today... brrr), the LCD display is just a mass of black pixels will the menu screen hidden behind. When the car warms up, the pixels begin to clear too, to reveal my menu creen again...
...Just one of those things I guess. Works ok though!
The lcd screens can degrade over time and a few people have experienced similar things, and had to have them replaced, as the display stops returning to normal. Mine has lost so many lines at the top and bottom that it needs fixing, but given the cost of a new screen from TVR I am going to have a look at replacing it myself when I return to the UK.
Experienced the same problems towards the the latter part of last year, and whilst I could live with it, as the screen display always returned to normal after quite a few miles, it has been replaced during it's annual service just after Christmas. I don't know exactly how much it has cost, as I haven't received my account yet. However it does enhance the appearance of the dash from my position, and looks like new again.

I'd be interested to know how much it cost to replace once you get the bill.
