I've had Hilarys out and despite lot's of bartering, it still seems a bit much. Two bedroom apartment, I'm looking at blinds for three small windows and two large windows, wood effect over £700 fitted and 'normal' aluminium £350.

This sound a bit steep to me and I'd like to get some other quotes in - who else should I look at as well as any locals around here? Any proper 'Hilarys' alternatives??

There was a chap on the Business forum posting a couple of months ago that he'd just opened up a second shop.

Just found the thread;

Sure he'd be cheap, and a fellow PHer too!

Website listed on his profile.

I have been through a similar situation. Replaced all of the net curtains in my house with proper wooden venetian blinds, and in the kitchen and bathroom aluminium ones.

I got them all from ebay from a place called "blind sensations", the quality is very good, they are dirt cheap, the wood ones are proper solid wood, the aluminium ones small slithers of metal. The service has been great and they often have sales on.

It's the same stuff as that Hilary's place, maybe even better quality for about 20% of the cost.

I measured mine myself and ordered them online and saved a fortune.

If you can fit them yourself you'd save some loot.

Some of my family made blinds in the East End - unfortunately it was in the 19th century!

I've always used these people www.247blinds.co.uk

Measure up yourself and fit yourself (they are really simple if you have an iota of DIY knowledge).

Massive choice of fabrics and styles.

I've kitted out 2 of my 2 bed flats with their gear and so far never had any probs.

They even have upgrade service whereby you can pay an extra few quid and get them delivered really quickly if you need.

We quoted a few 'big' companies when we had our front bay window done (big bloody windows) and Hilarys were a total rip off. We looked at a few local companies and they were half as much and the quality was just as good and we got free fitting too which is nice as although I'd have a crack at putting a set up, if anything goes wrong we can just call the original company.

I used http://www.blindsuk.net/ , they were recommended to me by a friend and I was very happy with their service, their prices and blinds - I got roller, roman and wooden blinds from them.

This lot. We've had about 14 blinds from them so far, and very pleased.

As I've had my own company supplying the trade for 22 years, can I ask whether you all if you have bought direct through the internet or whether you visited winddow blind shops first? I'm just intrigued as to how the market is going.
Thanks.
