Eeeek! My Tuscan is dying.

I went to drag the Tuscan out for a warm up today to cure its midwinter malaise of sditting in the garage doing nowt.
No battery volts. Jump of spare booster battery? No Joy. Current went to lots and cables smoked. I have a 12V line in the garage for little boosts but no good. Linked TVR to huge battery (1000amp max) and broom bang bleeeeeeeeeeeeep. What's wrong? I can't read the warning cos A. the screen don't work and B. if it did it just says warning etc which I know the details of but diff to read with only 3 lines of LCD. Also the driver window /door is very confused, it rolls down, opens and rolls down abit more then does not want to behave at all. sole consolation is the speedo works accurately. Well I suppose the engine is OK but I dont want to kick it til I'm sure. Do all Tuscs do this after a 2 month sleep?

Your troubles sound similar to the ones I had a couple of months ago. It wouldn't start, the LCD display was playing-up and the drivers door window would stop half way up and the door wouldn't unlock.
The majority was resolved by a replacement battery. Apparently the battery life about 3 years, no amount of jump-starting/trickle charging would bring it back to life. My thread here will tell you more.
Have you tried pressing the door reset button? If this doesn't cure it you may have the same problem I had. The circuit board that controls the doors had become damp and had to be replaced. The cost of the part is ~£20.00 and (I'm told) fairly easy to replace.

Sounds like:
1. Your battery is stuffed. Replace it.
2. Your LCD screen may also be stuffed. Dealer will send the pod back to factory.
3. Your door controller switch in the door is stuffed, a new one is cheap.
One thing I have learnt in 3.5 years of Tuscan ownership is that the engine goes out of tune easily, caused mainly by:
1. Bad starts from cold, in particular with a weak battery.
2. Long hot periods of idling when stuck in traffic ie over 1 hour.(welcome to London)
3. Leaving it for over 3 weeks before starting it, usually combined with 1. above.
The moral of the story being, drive it!! I don't have power in my garage for a trickel charger, but it's on the list of things to be done...

Battery charger (accumate) car cover & de-humidifer are essential equipment for TIV's that are not used regually in the winter months.

I'm glad someone else thinks this as well whitey! My car always sounds in best tune after a good track day or after a 5 hour blast down to Le Mans. This time of year is frustrating as I can't give it the love and attention it needs (full throttle) on these slippy roads.

Thanks for all the helpful advice.
Ive already replaced the battery, covered under varta warranty, and things have improved. The beast runs. I'm afraid to admit that when i parked it up it was damp and that seems to have attacked some of the electrics. I believe the pod and driver door sensor or controller are particularly sensitive to this.
I have started to keep a Calcium Chloride dehumidifier box in the car but please remember to take it out when you drive it. The box isn't designed for high G moments. Wet and dry car vac came in useful

In answer to the "you should drive it critics". Its not easy when you are not in the country and friends that i trust enough to drive it daily for me can be counted on the toes of my right hand. My extremely trusted mechanic friend who has driven it many times makes me balk as he describes moments of ludicrous oversteer and oversprung-underdamped moments from the front end. (Keep it for the track Terry!)
I think a small visit to Peninsula shall come as the weather warms and my residence in the uk becomes more reliable. It is heartening to hear that that the malaise that affects the electronics is not expensive.....but is the correspondent the heir to the Getty fortune? Probably not..so heres hoping.
