Front suspension issues

Hi all

I Have replaced my bushes (From TRV car Parts)on my front wishbones.I am now in the process of reassembling my front suspension.I am having extreme difficulty in inserting the wishbones into the chassis bracket.I dont want to hammer them in because this would damage the new powder coating on the wishbones, have tryed the rubber mallet route but it doesn't have enough clout.Have thought about bending the bracket outers to make the recess larger to except the wishbone collar but not sure as I dont want to weaken the bracket.Any Idea's boys?????

Hi Neil, maybe post a photo of the bit that don't fit, so we get an exact view
of what the problem is. Don't bent it, there must be another "correct" method of TVR madness you can try 1st. HTH.

I had trouble with one lower mount for which I carefully filed the metal insert until the poly bush slotted in. For the upper mounts I found them quite flexible in the front to back direction and bent really easily as they are designed to take a vertical load and not a horizontal load - mine even bent on removal of the wishbones, particularly the one that needed cutting off and I had to knock them back straight again.

Had no problems afterwards

Fitted poly bushes to mine earlier this year, can't remember if it was top or bottom wishbones that went in no problem but which ever it was on the other the little metal tube in the bushes was slightly too long. only needed the smallest amount filed off and they slipped into the chassis perfectly.
Suggest you try them before offering up the complete wishbone ?

Another issue solved, yes the metal insert in the polybushes supplied by TVR car parts are too long for the bottom wishbones.Will get my file out tommorrow and re fit.So many issues, so many answers, what a brilliant forum this is !!!! Thanks Guys

I will be doing the same soon so watching this with interest. Dont forget that the Top and bottom bushes are different, but are the steel insert tubes the same length top and bottom ? I assumed they were ...

I'm 150 miles away from mine at the minute or would have checked...

dont go filing anything until you have checked this !

Kevin, the lower inserts are quite a bit longer. I wondered if some filing might be required as when offered up to the wishbone (still attatched to the car) they do seem a little on the big side. I'd assumed that when the bolts are released there might be some movement outward?

I too will be attempting the front suspension overhaul this winter so am happy to gain as much info as possible from other forum members.

Good luck with it anyway and please post your experences so that I will know what pifalls to avoid!!
