The other day I found myself behind a car in a village near Saffron Walden and I didn't recognise it. At first it looked like a family saloon with funny tail-lights that followed the curve round the rear arches. Very hard to describe the light clusters but they were very distinctive.
I couldn't read the badge but it looked like a Pininfarina logo and the car had four exhaust pipes at the bottom which alerted me to the fact I was looking at something other than a flashy Volvo.

What the hell was it? Any ideas?

Curved tail lights that follow the rear wings, so sort of look like upside down L's?

Thats almost definately a Maserati.

Ahh Safrron Walden - fond memories.

Ahh, yes DavidD pointed me towards the 3200 GT - that's the fella. Looked like a Volvo at first glance! Is it any good?

Yes they are great, I've taken both the auto and manual versions out and they are great, the engine is fantastic (3.2l twin turbo that was the revviest thing this side of a vicar school), they handle really well, very chuckable (on the roads I was on at least) and I could see how effective they could be for that drive down to the sarf of france in the summer. By all accounts they are pretty reliable. I'd like a go in a new one as they now have the motor from the F360 and lots of other mods.

Supposed to be a lovely car.

You can pick them up v.cheap in Italy or so I have been told. Thought about going over, buying one and driving one back and selling it but the saw how much paperwork and potential stress is involved so swerved it.

They've now ditched the LED tail lights as the Americans don't want them.

Including, quite literally speaking, Prime Minister Blair - well he, bends over forwards to accomodate an American, but you get the point!

Lotus engineers are wearing trousers around their ankles at the moment, trying to squeeze 8 airbags and half a dozen cup holders into the elise, for our large friends.

Excellent remark (no no, I'm not biased....)

It is a shame about the lights, still the new car is supposed to be much better than the old one (which I thought was great) so we shall wait and see. Also when you're driving it you cannot see the back lights, well unless you are doing something very wrong :-)

Only if you fitted one of those rear exterior mirrors on an arm. The type you see on all those mpv thingies. "Does my bum look big in this?"
