Just wanted to canvas opinion on the situation with 'nice' cars being subject to vandalism these days.

I graduated in June last year and bought a Chimaera two weeks ago , which is very much my first really tasty motor and something I've wanted for ages (a relatively gentle introduction to TVR ownership!)

Anyway, I knew that there was a chance that it might be maliciously, or carelessly, damaged, but I didn't expect it to happen so soon. Some kind soul has keyed the driver's door twice and put a nice dent in it. The car was parked in a car park in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

This leads me to ask two questions:

1. Is this kind of thing common? Does anyone have any horror stories so that I know I'm not alone (anything worse than mine would be good as then I'd could think, "well, it could have been worse!" )

2. Given that the scratches have pentrated to the undercoat and that there is a dent in the door, what is the best way to get it back to 'perfect' condition? I suspect that the entire door needs to be resprayed and the dent filled, but was wondering if anyone knows of any cheaper alternatives?

I'm really sorry to hear about the damage to your car, roadsweeper. Grrr. Idiots.

I think you have been unlucky, though. I have had 'nice' cars for some years and have never had any damage to them (cross-fingers, touch wood) BUT as I have said before on this forum I put that down to being jolly careful about where I park them (not quite paranoid - but nearly). I'm afraid jealousy is quite common (you'll encounter the odd unpleasant yell as you drive roof down this summer) but thankfully many people enjoy seeing the cars as well and say something nice. e.g. "Nice Car, Mate" etc. I always try to reward those who are nice to me with some civil conversation: e.g. "Thanks very much. etc".

As to repairs - others on this forum will know more but a cheaper alternative could be Chips-Away.

Hope you get it fixed up a.s.a.p. with minimum fuss. Enjoy your car.

A relative of mine with a 993 C4 cab was engraved "RMI" on his bonnet, which in France means the official "minimum social insertion wage"

As far as I'm concerned I never ever leave my car out of sight, especially since I'm 22 because that stirrs a lot of jealousy...

It doesn't just happen to nice cars roadsweeper. My mum's Rover 200 got keyed on the bootlid a couple years ago in Tegg's Nose carpark.

I know a garage in Macclesfield who will do a good job for not very much money. (Also know a few places to avoid!) Email me if you want more info.

There was a discussion about Thermite on one of the other threads. Lighting a kilo of that in each of their pockets sounds like a fair punishment to me.

This sort of thing really makes me

Do you remember a few years ago when some spoilt brat rich-kid yankee tosser was convicted of spray painting graffiti on cars in Malaysia (think it was, might have been Indonesia)?

Anyway, he was flogged for it and his Mummy got all upset saying he would be scarred for life and all he did was mess up a few cars and anyway they were insured etc. etc. Only downside was that the silly bitch wasn't flogged as well (well, that and the fact that they stopped whipping him before the little f****r was dead).

I think it was Singapore, they're good at being hard on crime out there and crime means chewing gum, spitting, offensive t shirts. I remember when I worked out there getting the door kicked in in the middle of the night by immigration looking for illegal malaysian girls but thats another story

left my chimmy parked outside every day, its a street full of dodgy kids too. My mates BMW got scratched a few times, but the TVR only drew interest not scourn. people would come and talk to me about it, and the kids wanted to wash it!!

other cars I had, got played with. My best advice would be get a car cover, its amazing how this deters any interest in whats underneath

Cheers for the suggestions of places to get the car sorted - also for the highly amusing ideas for punishment!

I'm actually glad I didn't catch him/them in the act because I probably would have done something silly... (in that order )

Cheers.

That's probably the answer - always park near a Beemer - that way the scrotes will always be drawn in that direction, away from the Tiv...

It would be a very unusual sight to see a carpark in Wilmslow without a BMW in it!
