XBox chatpad - help!

So,

finally got the XB installed properly and up and running - loving it!

Bought a chatpad yesterday but cannot for the life of me get the bugger to work

Any ideas?

It is attached to the controller solidly, isn't it? My son's worked no problem at all, but it was quite hard to get it to seat on the controller.

well connected, no gaps etc

The input jack doesn't always line up properly for some reason. Even though it looks as though there are no gaps all round, just give the pad another firm push. You'll probably feel the pad going on slightly further. We have two and one of the pads is always a pain in the @rse to fit for some reason. Also state of charge of the main pad can affect the keypad.
