PS3 HD problems

Reconnected my ps3 up to my LG full HD tv today and cant seem to get it back into HD mode. Ive got the PS3 connected via a HMDI lead but it wont give me the full 1080 resolution and when I try and reset it it comes up with an "invalid format" message on the screen before going back to the original one. I dont think its the lead as I wouldnt get a picture at all and ive gone through all the options on the Tv and cant see anything that I can have changed. Ive also done a settings reset on the TV and console.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this as the graphics are worse than a ps2 at the moment

Seems to be a fairly common problem amongst ps3 owners with LG tv's, according to google. Few forums suggest the following:

"Use the power button on the front of the console, to put it in standby mode (red light on).
Then press and hold the power button until you hear two beeps."

That wouldn't be a problem with the TV, that would be the correct way of changing the system resolution for any TV. It's in the manual.

Ive tried that, but cheers for the suggestion anyway

IIRC, you have to tell the PS3 the output resolution of the TV/autoset depending on the panel you're using.

Ive tried that in the menus but when I select 1080p and it tests it the TV comes up with invalid format and goes back to the original low res setting. Plus when ever ive adjusted the TV back after taking the PS3 to a mates house ive never had to specify the settig I want, its just selected the best one.

Its definitely the TV not working correctly. Plugged my PS3 into my mums TV and it went straight into 1080p no problem at all.

The Tvs only bloody 9 months old, so will have to get it replaced under warranty and put up with a 14 inch old style TV for a while
