Does anyone know where the door dampers are from on a GTR? Is it cheaper to order them from an auto factor or Ultima? As well are they pretty straight forward to to fit?

The other thing I'm looking for is a build manaul (electronic) as I don't have one because I bought the car 2nd hand. Can any one help?

Thanks

gas struts have to have the right specifications for a certain weight and I think after looking myself for struts for my hardtop, it would be the easiest for you to get them from the factory, for the loom I suggest you look here and if you send me a mail I can forward you the word document that is describing the loom.

Have looked at replacement gas struts before both Ultima and other applications.
Your main problem is not knowing what pressure they are set at in order to buy replacements.
With the Ultima ones I found I could not buy significantly cheaper to offset the risk of them not working.

Ask the Factory for a set and ask them to throw in a build CD.

To replace
Hold the door open wide and remove the clip from the lower ball joint. Pop off the joint. Release the bolt holding the strut to the hinge.
Rebuild is the reverse as they say in all manuals.

I think most of us have had problems with the plastic ends on the struts, not the strut itself. one good bump of the door forward when its up and its easy to strip the threads out of the plastic piece. There was some talk here of replacing the plastic piece with a s/s one but that,s a non starter. If the end doesn't break the upper hinge will. lets see, cheap piece of plastic or a trip to the body shop to repair the hinge, easy choice. I have found the correct replacment, plastic end. It is part # 9416k86 in the Mc Master Carr catalog. For those of you outside the states if you want me to, I can buy a handfull of these and ship them over to England if one of you will become the single point contact. They cost $1.13 ea the last time I bought them. all I want is my cost to ship them to me here in California then on to the single point contact overseas. Lee

I have a set of nearly new door dampers lying around.
Post me through my profile if you are interested.
