My father and I are restoring a 57 right now, built it from spare parts, it now runs and drives perfectly, needs only paint and exterior trim. Just a matter of finding the time. We rebuilt a 59 a few years ago, which is basically the same car. Generally very little goes wrong with these cars, the small block V8 is a strong dependable engine. Change the oil/air filters annually and you'll be fine. The only thing I can recommend is if you have a 4 speed you should switch from the Borg Warner T-10 transmission to a 63 style Muncie. As T-10s get older, they tend to slip out of second gear and develop other problems. www.corvettecentral.com/ reproduces many parts you may come to need, and they can provide very helpful advice.

Welcome Mark, your car sounds a right Classic,,maintenance is pretty basic on the older models and you are lucky that you dont have all the electronics that need specialist equipment to sort, however if you dont know what end the engine is in then your gonna need help.

Welcome aboard! I have never seen a '57 in the UK!
One of the guys in France had an orange/white one.
Depending on what needs doing and how capable / brave you are feeling, it shouldn't be too difficult to DIY.
What is the spec on the car? Do you have the VIN number and the engine number? You can get most of the info about the car from the internet if you know where to look.
