Painting Brake Calipers

I'm going to paint my brake calipers red, as I have a red car, so I reckon they will look good. I'm at a loose end on which paint to use though? I've had differing suggestions from friends, so thought I'd come here, as I tend to get more exact answers.

Hamirite works fine 5k later with mine no issues with heat ect and the have been pushed very hard in Europe in the summer

Oh and i shot blasted mine first then just hamirite to bare metal was fine just to give a nice finish and rebuilt all the brakes while i was at it with new pistons and seals brakes are first class and so is the handbrake.

halfords do tins of brake caliper paint, quite good stuff, and it cures quicker than hammerite so does`nt come off so easy if you spill a bit of fluid when bleeding the brakes after putting them back on.

Another one for Hammerite. Yellow improves stopping distance and acts as ABS too

If you want the perfect long lasting solution, big red (google them) do an aerospace grade poly coating which is amazingly hard!

Ok thanks chaps. Is there any particular procedure to painting them? I was told to keep the paint off the part of the caliper where the pad attaches....any other issues, or do I just cover the pad area and go for it? Shall I use a spray can, or a brush? I may even stencil the TVR logo onto them in white, IF I can find a suitable stencil.

I just brushed mine and masked up the pad area’s and the working parts affected so the pad can slide freely.

That sounds easy enough. It'll be a while until I get round to it. I've got the Chimaera brakes for my S, so fitting them will take me a while. On another note, how do I make a handbrake, as I'm going from drums to discs at the rear?

If you are using chim brakes look at my shot blasted one above you can see the leaver at the rear of the calliper that is for the hand brake cable and the handbrake on the chims griffs work on the disc. mine before refurb you can see the cable here better.

Looks familiar! So do I just attached a cable from the handbrake to that lever, and that's it?

Not sure but the chim handbrake cable is fixed to the chassis to allow ajustment so not sure how it is fitted on a S you would have to look in to it, Someone on here may know. But i think yeah all your doing is pulling those leavers to make the pads grip the disc.

I'm sure I can gather enough help on here, and from my car owning friends (and possibly the mechanics at Ginetta, when I start), to help me out with it. I'm very lucky that I have friends who I can learn from, otherwise I'd just end up breaking everything/giving up.
