Snipers..... I think I may have worked it out!

Playing MW2 earlier I was pondering Snipers, I watched some KillCams and and then tried it myself.

I got some decent scores, sat there motionless staring at the screen clicking the trigger every now and again, but I was bored stless, literally wasting time waiting for the next person who was enjoying the game to walk past so I could ruin there fun too........

.......and thats when it hit me! Eureka! It's so simple......

I now have a new found sympathy for these hermits of the gaming world, they hate playing, they are miserable and don't enjoy FPS's and so they want to ruin everyone else fun too by sitting motionless glitched on top of a tree waiting to clip someone having fun in a good old fashioned shoot-out.

Next time I spawn and instantly get shot in the face by a .50cal' FMJ I won't be angry I will feel sad for their blackened joyless hearts.

I think the map layouts in MW2 are better for avoiding getting sniped, on COD4 you could do very well with a sniper on pretty much every level, whereas on this one its only effective on Afghan and Estate. Its not difficult to sneak up on snipers and kill them either, and there is one less claymore to fight with. If you are smart in how you move around the maps, you should be relatively safe... when I get shot by a sniper, its usually when i'm also using one on one of the levels I mentioned.

I thought you meant the misery loves company challenge, where you run at someone and kill them with a cooked grenade you're holding onto. Not the best for your K/D ratio, but I'd wager it's good fun.

I like to use a sniper rifle on Derailed, I run to a spot, take out the camped folks in the big warehouse near the Soviet spawn and move around giving the snipers a taste of their own medicine.

I alter my playstyle to the map at hand...

If that means taking a sniper rifle and defending a position then so be it. I enjoy picking people off before they see another member of my team. It reminds me how much of a I am. If my actions don't garner enough attention I slit my wrists whilst defending my solitary position in hope that the smell off blood with attract the khaki deamons which haunt my dreams. If this fails I do not sway from my descision, I do not run around like a moronic debuton brandishing an assault rifle and screaming "WHAT THE fk!" at the top of my lungs... I put up posters of H.I.M and My Chemical Romance and organise a teddy bears picnic in my hidey-hole whilst crying about the death of my parents into my comfort blanket.

Still trying to figure out how the sniper gets out onto the end of the crane in highrise, have set up a private match by myself and tried it but still cant figure it out. I hate spawning, jumping out the window and getting whacked, I've seen a team of two players win in HCDM just by having one snipe on the crane and the other snipe underground (to get those who don't want to die getting out of the window!)

Get up on the hut and jump onto the crane. There is a better spot where you climb up to the roof of one of the buildings, though you risk getting shot whilst you climb up there, you also risk falling to your doom if you don't make the initial jump.

what he said, its the building on teh far side, halfway between the buildings with the lifts in it. ladder up teh side adn then its a case of jumping from crane to crane.

You can get onto a gantry above one of the ends of the map, pretty easy to do and quite popular. You can also glitch onto the roof of the other end, although that involves making a jump which is virtually impossible, I have seen epople die 20-odd times in a match just trying to do this jump. Of course, by the time they actually manage it, everyone knows their game and shoots them once they manage it. One for private matches I guess.

It's not a glitch to get up to the roof, the developers' trademark seems to be the teddy-bears and they're all over the roof, so you're meant to be able to get up there. You're right though that it takes a few attempts to make the jump, my tip is to use the rubbish littering the floor to line up your jump and stop pushing the stick as soon as you make contact with the ladder, this should stop you from overshooting the jump.

Assuming it's team deathmatch (other game modes are obviously different) I play to win (cos that's the aim right) so I'd much rather have someone on my team sniping/camping doing well than running around like a loon and constantly dying, giving the other team needless kills. It's all about enjoying it I know but it's the winning/doing well that I enjoy.

I think it depends on the individual & the opposition, and how you want to play each map. For example - I consider myself (mostly) a tactical camper (one that moves around as it suits playing different parts of the map but doesn't run around for the sake of it) and I would say Norbury a straight up shooter which, he is superb at (I am not) but both of us when it suits can swap roles - last night we did this on Estate (as Norbs said he likes to snipe on that level, I do not, so I did the running), we both finished 22 for 2. It's about doing well and winning.

OP - I can understand your frustration but equally (& I'm sure this doesn't apply to you) I can't stand people moan about "camping". For so many poeple this is an easy whine but often utter rubbish, if you get shot by the same person in the same place, that's a little dumb; and in hardcore (no killcam) just because someone's killing you a lot, it doesn't mean they're camping, they're just better.

If you can't cope with people playing like this, learn how to beat them, flush them out, seek cold hard revenge, there is nothing more satisfying!

This is true. I lack the patience (and, if I'm honest, the skill) to snipe. But I very much enjoy outflanking snipers and knifing them in the back. Cooked grenades are useful for dealing with the rooftop snipers, too. Time it right and they pop up to shoot you and get a faceful of shrapnel for their pains. 8)

Really good snipers (the ones who move after every shot and are therefore very difficult to pin down) can be frustrating to play against, but their impact can be mitigated by moving in short, fast hops and staying in cover wherever possible.

It's all part of the game, innit. And since I spend more time dead than alive on MW2, I can hardly seek to blame anyone else for my shortcomings!

It's such a dull miserable way to play though, there is now fun in sitting still waiting for someone to walk past.

It's one thing on Team Dethmatch but on something like Demolition were they just sit in one corner killing people actually trying to play the game while they make absolutely no effort to win the match really annoys me.

I played a Domination match last week were I was the only person on my team actually moving, everyone else on my team just sniped, and we lost the match by over 180 points as I couldn't fight the entire enemy team on my own.

Truly a bunch of miserable lonely losers.

I have come-up with a perfect sniper simulator though. You can just stare out of your window at home with some binoculars and shout "BANG" when somebody walks past, seems to be exactly the same.

There's a time and a place for sniping, and a good one on your team can make all the difference. Unfortunately good snipers are a rare breed.

If it makes you feel any better, Airsoft is exactly the same too. Lost track of the number of times I've sauntered across open ground while half the enemy team was taking potshots with sniper rifles and barely even landing close...

Quaint pointed ot the proper way to snipe a'la enemy at the gates style...

With your logic surely anyone who runs around with a rocket launcher as their secondary is a tosser... because if they did thier job then the enemy would never get to call in a chopper...

You might say that staying in one place is "not fun", but how fun is watching "you will respawn in 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1..." over and over?

Sounds to me like you've encountered either wkers or people who like playing the game but appreciate that sitting out of harms way allows them the chance to keep and eye on their newborn.

Fair comment, this would really annoy me, this is one of the reasons that I only play other modes when in a party with mates as you can communicate and work together to win.
