So, ventured online this weekend for a few races.

Generally the standard in the midfield forward is pretty good from what I've seen. People don't (often) punt you off deliberately, and generally if you get a run on someone, they make room. Had some good dices with various people and enjoyed it.

  • If*, and it's a big if, *if* you can avoid the usual couple of idiots trying to win it on the first corner, a good run can be had.
Other observations;
- I suspect most people run traction and stability control or have much, much more sensitive trigger fingers than me. The number of R3 cars that seem to put the power down very well out of corners is unlikely otherwise (I could just be crap).
- There are a couple of cars that seem to be suspiciously fast. I have an Audi S3 at D425, and it is so quick I was lapping people after 5 laps in NY. Suspect there will be some balancing by Turn 10 shortly.
- Enjoying Class C to A racing the most. Struggle with R3 and above.

I find the "vote to kick" works well and makes the lobbys pretty much self policing

I was in a few random multiplayer lobbys last night and didnt have any problems

also anyone who selected an Audi was getting "vote to kick" and booted out hehe

Well you have certainly been having more fun than me online. So far, all i have came across are absolute dicks who punt you off for no damn reason other than to annoy you. I really don't understand why T10 put in this stupid hopper system. The term "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind...

However, i have been enjoying drifting online very much. I'm not much of a drifting fan, but the other drifters i have came across seem generally well behaved. There have been the couple of people who hit you so you lose your points, or race off to the finish line so that you don't finish in time and DNF, but it's easy to get rid of them now thanks to the voting to kick system.

so people who punt slow cars out of the way and chose audi variants get voted off ?

not exactly a good advert for the game, prefer driving still used in carmageddon smile

Nope. People who deliberately miss their braking points and use the car in front because you've just passed them get kicked for driving like a BTCCer.

looks like one to miss, if can't knock cars in a race, going to be right boring driving round and round and round in circles

carmageddon is a lot more fun than need for speed, more fun when u can punt the other cars off the track and into the river or simply blow them up when they get in your way smile

in forza 3, do the cars actually get damaged when knocked or is it the player's ego for being beaten that gets them to lick people off the servers who might be a threat to their name on some leaderboard ?

Lol i actually really enjoyed racing against mates in shift. My done up GT2 round the 'ring was such good fun. i still cant use the inside view from forza but used nothing but that view on shift. its not an amazing game but i wouldnt class it as st. i only prefer forza because of the menu's, races, cars and online side of things. i think the actual in race gameplay of shift was better! (not the physics) a mix of the 2 would be my perfect game!

I'll admit that I need to improve my racing online after my effort last night, if only to try and get reasonably competitive!
I find you can get a good choice in how to race in it really though, you can have a serious race in GT cars, or if I'm up for some stupidity I can lark around with my land rover that corners on its wing mirrors! You just need to make sure everyone in the lobby knows what is happening! smile

Had a race last night in the Lambo I am proud of tuning myself. Was in 2nd place (to an S5, I know, don't see many of those! rolleyes) and all race I was meters away from this Dodge Viper '03. He was right on my bumper. I always move over to let people pass if they have got the beans to do so. Lap 3/3 he doesn't bother braking going into the last bend and shunts me into a barrier.

There should be something where if you hit someone at a certain speed your car has it's speed limited for 5 / 10 seconds or something like other games have done.

That is a rubbish idea, the one in GT5 Prologue is very frustrating for even the slightest touches you get penalised.

Minor contact is ok. Genuine mistakes are ok.

Straight punting a car off because it's gone past you is not.

agreed, some times even if someone hits you, you then get a penalty!

I do the same as you with regard to moving over, if its obvious im holding someone up ill move over and give them space atleast to attempt. I made a hash job the other night and punted someone off, after the race i sent a message saying sorry also, mcuh to my suprise i got a message back saying 'no problem, good race' (it was a close race)
