We have found out today that eldest son will be bringing his g/f of a year back for Christmas, youngest son has announced that he would also like to have g/f for aforementioned meal.

Mrs.S. is now in a state of ecstacy that I have not seen since our first year of marriage.

I made a suggestion I have been daring myself to utter, that we have beer can chicken (2) and a bacon explosion (both gathered from the wisdom of this forum and cause of much excitement and approval in the summer) for Christmas dinner with all the usual trimmings. Though I feared I may lose body parts as a result of this suggestion, it has actually gone down surprisingly well, not the least reason being that I can be banished to the garden to play with barbeque while she has the whole kitchen and cooker to herself for the rest.

Anyone have any inspirational ideas that can make this a day to remember before we stelle into an Eastenders stylee fight and establish recriminations that will last for the rest of the year?

Have christmas dinner around 2pm instead, then come 8ish when everyone is starting to get hungry again (you just know it's going to happen, no matter how much you eat at dinner) then you can bang out the BBQ for your bit.

Get yourself a few fireworks, a chimnea, mulled wine, invite the neighbours around and have an outdoor supper/party.

I'd keep the dinner traditional and save the magic for the evening buffet when everyone has got a storming hunger for meat on again.

Just cook the evening stuff before hand because if you are anything like me by the time I serve the main dinner I am half cut and I am not allowed anywhere near hot stuff or knives by the evening!

Last year i did a fillet of beef (arround 1kg) took 25 mins to cook in the oven and 10 mins to rest.

Did it with a balsamic vinagar and red onion gravey . . . went down a storm!

expensive . but tasty !
