I have an 18-55 Canon lens which has become damaged. I've taken it appart and what's happened is that some of the teeth have broken off part of the gear mechanism which drives the auto focus. I can see the part which needs replacing, so now I just need someone to sell it to me.

Part is a little plastic cog/stick thing, looks like it's worth about 50p!

Anyone know where I might be able to look to get such a part? The lense will be worth circa £50 once I've repaired it, so would be a shame to write it off for the sake of a 50p part, esp considering I've already disassembled it to find the problem.

So, reccomend me a place to get these things?

This site sells Canon spares, hopefully they can supply your part:

I doubt that they will supply a part only and if they doit won't be pence. Ebay has fully working lenes for £20-30 at the moment.

With that lens I'd put the repair cost towards some better glass.

Professional repair will cost you more than it's worth, so I fear you have two options:

1) eBay, advertised as manual focus only, might get a tenner.

2) trebuchet

Yeh, the 18-55 is too light to use as a door stop or paper weight.

Would make quite a neat pen holder pot for your desk though.
