I've given up with my Canon Pixma IP3000 it's printing very muddy pictures even if I print directly from the camera using pictbridge so it isn't profiles. Its the same with Lightroom, Nikon's Picture Project and directly from windows.

So I'm after a new one. One that will print A4 to a decent quality. How much do I need to spend? I don't want to go mad but I do want to be able to print what I see in the back of the camera or on my calibrated Laptop/PC Screens.

Any proposals?

I keep looking at a Hi-Ti but cant justify the cost compared to outsourcing. Currently using Digitalab

I was always recommended Epson for photo printing & HP for document printing.

I've never been disappointed with Epson yet.

my 2p is get a used r1800, pick one up very cheap these days (had mine 4 years nearly) and the print quality is fantastic and goes up to a3. I know you want a4 but for the price now you cannot get better imo.

Compared to pro print shops I've yet to be convinced its anything but a great printer with a full gamut of colour range and quality. Ink is $ but you get a lot for your money and the cartidges are comparible with others.

Mate of mine has one, he uses it for on-site printing at equestrian events. The quality is top notch. However, it has broken and even though it is in warranty they insist on shipping it back to Holland for repair at his cost both ways - £150 in total.
