Went down to check on monday as Christchurch was flooded on saturday.bds have broken into the cabin and nicked my 15hp mercury 2 stroke tender outboard that I stashed in the front Toilet,flares,binoculars and the bloody fuel tank.
It took me months to find that outboard this year as it was "as new" and much lighter than a fourstroke so I can lift it solo, and they dont make 2 strokes any more...........Not best pleased.

Sorry to hear that mate. Out of curiosity, where were you moored in Christchurch? Our boat is currently lying down there and you've got me worried now!

Hopefully Plod will have some success, but outboards aren't the easiest thing to trace. Does your insurance cover everything in this case? I know what you mean about the two stroke thing - so much lighter and have the performance edge at that engine size. Still, you might get lucky and find a replacement on the likes of eBay.

Oh dear, sorry to hear it. Unfortunately the reality is I hear this on a weekly basis at work. A little while ago we have loads of cases of engine gearboxes stolen. There's no way of locking them on and they fetch quite a lot of money. We had so many replacement gearboxes on back order. I dont have any used 2 stroke 15's at the moment but if I get one I'll try to remember to let you know. Good luck with the police and insurance. Dan

Worth keeping an eye on ebay?

There's not THAT many new-ish 15HP outboards out there, it's not a massively popular size.

Glad to hear plod are taking it seriously!

Its insured but £600 xs for a £1400 engine and the premium will go up for a few years.Im better off accruing no claims and saving the ins for when it sinks in the channel or sets light to a few million £ of boats in a marina.

Ive found another for £1450 in same condition but may go for an 8-9 hp 2 stroke as all I want to be able to do is plane 6 up.I have an almost new 6hp suzuki 4 stroke that is as heavy as the 15hp Mercury but it will only plane 1 up.Add one more person and thats it.

Im not going to secure the boat better as if I had they would have smashed their way in and that would have cost a bit to fix and would never look the same.I might leave the engine hatch open down below "so I get no moisture build up down there". Its a meter drop and is situated at the bottom of the stairs.I will also take evrything home from now on.There is nothing else left on the boat anyway,unless they want cutlery.

I would - they might be that stupid. Set up a search and save it so you get e-mail notifications. It might also help you find another one.

Yup, auto-search will let you know by email every day when new stuff comes up matching the search.

I don't think there are that many 15HP mercury motors out there.

Even the the tea leaf doesn't put it on there directly, chances are the 'bloke in the pub' he sold it to might chance it.

Sure you've thought of this already, but also keep an eye on;

Gumtree - big 'fence' for stolen stuff
Boatsandoutboards.co.uk

Doubt it would be seen for another week or so, but still worth checking.
