PH news stories.

Guys, when a news story comes along which is relevant to a certain forum would it be possible to attach it to the top of an existing thread on the subject (if there is one already)?

In General Motorsport there has been, in the last few days, a Mercedes buys Brawn thread and a PH news story thread, a McLaren buy themselves out of Mercedes thread and a PH news story, a Jenson to McLaren thread and a PH news story. There is not really any need to clog up the front page with (dare I say it) reposts of current topics, which normally have been discussed for a day or so already.

PH has added the news item to the top of threads before. (the one that comes to mind is the Henry Surtees crash/condolences thread) I realise that the example above was exceptional circumstances, but it makes sense to carry on doing so.

This can be done in the back-end by me or Pete, but the chaps who write the news have no way of doing it themselves so we tend to avoid it unless the circumstances are exceptional.

It would be nice to do more often though, so I'll add it to the list of ideas.

The first thread had been up for just over 15 hours. There wasn't really any need for the second one. Autosport.com forums have a merge feature where they can merge two threads which interlink together.

Maybe it's just me that gets annoyed by this?

It is something which is not ideal and is still on the list and not forgotten. We are currently going through a look at all the features on the site at the moment and what we need to improve on, this is one of the things on this list.

It's probably only me that this annoys, but maybe if the News guys see that there is a thread already going, they could send the article to Mr Will or Racing Pete to merge with the existing thread.
