I haven't scratched the 4x4 itch yet and being a lexus affectionardo I've been looking at the RX.

Now I know it's not a proper 4x4, but I am quite taken with it.

So how bad is it?

A few poles suggest it to be one of the most satisfying ownership proposals of any car! I have driven the previous model and for a luxury SUV it is hard to fault!

Imust admit to quite liking them too, but for my money the Murano does everything just a bit better.

Mazda CX-7 does it better and cheaper!

What are you planning to do with it?

If you're planning to go green laning it's gonna be awful. But if you want a nice car to waft around in it does a brilliant job.

The hybrid one has sensible running costs too - this is one area where it considerably beats the Murano and CX-7.

Just make sure you get the active anti roll package, mega bits of kit with that option, think X5 M Sport level handling, very Q car'ish too thumbup

The electrowaft mode biggrin is quite cool & it's surprising how far you can get on it if not in a hurry. And the most comfy seats of ANY mainstream car PERIOD.

Plus you get the pleasure of paying Gordon Brown peanuts with its 149 gerbils per 100 koala marmotts

If you have any specific questions just PM me

Definitely wafting is the name of the game, after the misses has passed her test I will bin the Ibiza with its rock hard suspension (seriously) and get back to some cushioned leather goodness.

I don't think I can afford a 400h just yet frown

Off topic but we had a 1.4 16v which I don't think had any suspension.

I don't think it helped coming from an LS400 (as any car is going to have hard suspension compared to that), but the ibiza is a nightmare on pothole etc.

Colleague has an RX300, its been close on bulletproof apart from the usual servicing costs.

Its got one thing in common with plenty of other Lexi (?) - they look absolutely dire with the standard tyres, definitely only start to look right with a set of larger wheels.

Wife has got an RX and it's one of the best cars I've driven. Very understated, lots of kit but without the rogue image of some other 4x4s...

Plenty of kick when needed but great to just put into cruise control and coast along.

I can understand this statement about the Murano as it's V6 petrol only, but why the CX-7?

Good lady has one, lovely bit of kit amazingly comfy, phenomenally well equipped. Extremely spacious and has allot of great features already mentioned. The Mark Levinson Hi-Fi is utterly superb too.

All in all highly recommend one.

Have to say our ownership experience doesn't stack up with that, the only thing I would agree with would be the off road bit (and the lack of a record deck! smile ).... But tbh since when would you buy a Lexus for that! If you think of it as what it is which is a jacked up exec estate car then it is pretty dam good.

I had a RX300 for over 6 years, ran it as a family workhorse for 76,000 miles. Very comfortable and never let us down.
Very good car in my opinion.

Pawel and Magda next door certainly seem to like theirs.

Well the petrol CX-7 is in the £400+ tax band and won't do 30MPG+. The (hybrid) Lexus will and is about half the cost to tax.

Diesel CX-7 looks to have similar figures to the hybrid Lexus (although is a lot slower). Don't think it was out at the time of the orginal post though!
