xbox delight

Well, nothing of any importance to say.

But, after looking at the forza motorsport pics thread i just had to have a go, so a visit to amazon, 24 hrs later and at 4pm today i became the proud owner of a xbox 360 thingy.

MY GOD is all i can say, how these gaming consoles have come on since my atari.

Graphics are just amazing (is it worth getting a hdmi cable to make into hd)

Yet to discover xbox live yet, im still in awe with the idea of a wireless controller

Im so behind the 21st century its unreal.

So any tips you have, advice, pointers would be great

If you've got a component cable then you may as well use that, you'll not be able to see any difference with a HDMI. They both do high definition.

Right then, i must be thick

Fired up xbox and started to play fm3, but cant work out how you save when finished.

I presumed it all went on the hard drive, however i notice 2 slots in front of console, do i need a memory card them.

Autosaves everything to the hard disk. When you get better acquainted, you can flick through the options and find your save games, if you want to make sure they're there.

Are you planning on racing online? If so, make the most of the free live trial that you should have got with the console, and then decide if you want to spend the £40 to continue that for the year. It's more than worth it for the array of great games out at the moment. Especially the vast majority of PHers who play FM3 and MW2 online.

So how do i find my cars and races already done, everytime i fire it up it goes straight to the audi r8 demo.

Already set up xbox live, looks promising, i play the wii online a bit so im guessing its the same, only you pay

Have you created a user profile? You'll need to do this so it has someone to save everything against, otherwise your progress will have been lost. I'm guessing due to the fact you've setup XBox live you must have a gamer profile.

This is just a guess, as I’m at work and not in front of my Xbox.

From your Xbox360 dashboard, go to ‘My Xbox’, sign in with your profile (gametag) first, then start the game. This should then save your progress automatically and won’t go to Audi R8 demo.

Next time when you switch on your Xbox, do the same, i.e. sign in first before starting the game.

If you play Forza often, it’s better to install Disc 1 to your hard drive as then the Xbox runs quieter. (assuming you’ve got the Elite model with 120 Gb hard drive)

Edit: Get a steering wheel, it enhances the game ten-fold!

Yes, you do pay, but for the amount of time you'll probably spend playing online, my opinion is that it's definitely worth it. Very little server down-time, and if they are, they announce in way in advance, great gaming, lots of options, and a new live update this week as well, as well as regular updates and extras. Live Arcade is great fun as well.

Have you run both discs that came with the game? You will need to run Disc 1, then Disc 2 when prompted to install the contents, and then revert to Disc 1 again before playing. Depending on which deal you got, you may want to install the games to the hard disk too, if you have an Elite, as this will save the DVD drive from having to spin constantly whilst playing (in my opinion, this is the only reason the 360s are so loud - installing to hard disk makes them so much quieter!), and once you've installed all the content, you should be able to enter the game and start your career or playing online.

It's all pretty self explanatory so you shouldn't have too many problems. Like anything, it takes getting your head round a bit to find where all the options are, and your gamer profile etc, but a couple of weeks, you'll have the hang of it.

Which version of the 360 have you got, if it an arcade then it won't have a harddrive, so I assume you would need a memory card (or a harddrive) to store your saves on.

EDIT - Just checked on Amazon and the arcade does have some storage built in, so ignore me.

Yes, you're right about auto-sign in. I've two profiles in my Xbox hence don't use that function.

Not necessarily. If it's a brand new one, then there shouldn't be much of an issue, compared to the older models. If its an Elite, it should be good, providing its not sandwiched between 2 shelves on a TV unit.

The top of the Xbox actually doesn't get heated up..... so just leave plenty of clear space at the back of the Xbox so it can breathe then you'll be fine.

Or get an intercooler for it Ive got a white one I dont use due to having an elite if you want it £5 delivered

I would advise against getting the intercooler. I done some testing with my elites one, and it turns out the fans on the intercooler spin in an opposite way to the ones on the console, resulting in the air being blown out from the console being blown back in again. Not good.

I tryed it on my freinds too, so i hastily took it off.

Yeah those intercollers are bad news.
Just make sure it is on a hard surface with free flowing air behind it.
The Elite has the least heat problems anyway.
