Gurus,

I need your help.

I need the following:

A camera for my holiday to Malaysia - so need something good for city scapes, jungle folliage, elephants etc - ie an allrounder.

Also, easy to shoot friends in nightclubs....

I also need HD video for fixing my very broken golf swing, and general HD loveliness.

Budget is £300 or am I dreaming?

Ideally a Sony or Panasonic as that would fit in with my current PC/TV, but happy to remain brand abnostic!!

£300 might just do it..........with a little flexibility. Sony DSC HX-1 is the baby you need. 28-560mm zoom and HD video. Not perfect imaging in every mode but neither are most Nikon or Canon cameras even at a few times the price. Well worth a look, I think.

Very nearly bought one but went for an Alpha instead, (i.e. DSLR route rather than Bridge route).

I bought one last week for a similar reason - wanted a small camera with HD. Not really played with it much yet though!

I think there's a little way to go on the convergence trail yet.

Meanwhile, Mrs Beano has become the proud owner of a Panny HD-20 since her birthday. What a super little chap that is! (I wouldn't bother, personally, taking a still on it mind!)

Samsung WB550?, £180ish new on Ebay..

No experience of them personally, but I keep coming back to it (mainly due to price) when looking at compacts with HD video. Image stabilized 10X optical zoom when shooting video sounds impressive too.
