TELESCOPE VERSUS BINOCULARS...
Discussion
(Have done a search - issue not specifically addressed, that I could find)
(Eeesh!! Cannot go back to edit title down to lower case!!)
Hi all,
Am on the verge of buying something (budget ideally set to around £300, but willing to stretch to around £1000 if it makes a material difference in what can be had) for looking at the stars and night sky.
1) Firstly - I've read on other threads about a device or other 'being good for looking at planets'. Does that mean 'as opposed to terrestrial objects', or 'as opposed to other entities or phenomena in the night sky'?
2) What's wrong with buying observation binoculars for star-gazing, assuming one doesn't want to take photographs? Doesn't telescope use as-is (i.e. looking through the eyepiece) becoming fatiguing to the closed eye - or am I missing something?
For the same 'power' and quality of optics - what are the pros and cons of binoculars versus telescopes?
3) If photography is at all in the offing - I gather a proper telescope is the only way.
4) Are there systems that are still associated with very respectable results, that interface the telescope directly with a laptop? I.e. no 'camera' as such - just the in-built CCD or CMOS required to do the job?
Thanks in advance,
Arif

Check out this site - lots to read up that will help. They are very friendly and not at all pushy, if you decide to buy.
