How terrifying was the prospect of that doomsday weapon floating above the Soviet Union?
Freeman Dyson came across as a staggering intelect - it seems he could calculate anything given 5 minutes and the pack of an envelope. I wonder if all of his calculations were as comprehensive and reliable as they appeared. Not disputing them for a minute (I wouldn't no where to start...) it's just the way he seemed to be capable of quietly going off and working out anything. Anything at all. You want to know how many people will die as the result of radiation released each launch? ...5 minutes later he's back with a prediction down to the last decimal place.
