Insurance query

Like most people my fully comp insurance allows me to drive other folks cars with third party cover as long as I have the owner's permission.

My insurance company are a bunch of muppets so I'm asking you wise people:

Can I drive somebody else's car on my insurance that is currently NOT insured by the owner? (the car is road legal in all other ways - MOT/Tax, generally road worthy).

Short answer is no! The other car is not road legal unless it is insured directly.

Its a grey area, but basically the answer is NO.
If the car was not insured by the owner then technically you would be allowed to drive it on your insurance, but when you got out of it (parked it)presumably on a public highway, then it would not be insured, which is illegal.
Not worth taking the chance IMO.
I believe the above to still be the rules, but will stand corrected.

I've always understood this to be the case too - ie. both the car and the driver must have valid insurance.
