According to my OS map there is a train route from West Brompton to Wandsworth Rd.

I've passed this section of track a few times (I live nearby) but have never seen a train on it. It looks to be in working order. How come no trains run on it? Or is it freight only?

no direct passenger services tun on that route. Lots and lots of freight however runs through there every day including the DRS nuclear waste train twice a week.

You can get a train from West Brompton to Willisedn Junction and Clapham Junction but as said earlier there are no direct services between WB and Wandsworth Rd. They have just built a new station at Imperial Wharf (Chelsea Harbour).

There could be a bit of traffic on a route from Willesden -> Brixton or so as there's nothing else similar. Have you seen the peak hour trains from CJ to Shepherd's Bush? They make the tube trains look spacious. That's how many people want a direct route to West London!
