Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart, anyone driven one?
Discussion
Never seen one of these out on the road but I have seen a few for sale on here etc, performance figures look good and apparently the ralliart is a much more focussed drivers car than the CZT before it. 0-60 in 7.4 and 41mpg combined sounds good to me, don't mind the looks either, anyone got any experience if these, Im guessing not many people know what they are in the real world (ie not car geeksville) so you could surprise some
more expensive metal.
more expensive metal.
I've got the previous CZT, not driven one of the new ones yet. But I've loved this car, and the new one will certainly be on my list for the next one. If it helps, here's a few thoughts, they may have tweaked the handling a bit but I imagine that the rest is pretty similar.
41mpg is easily achievable but you have to try! I tend to get high 38-40 most days (motorway + a roads), <30 if you're on a hoon.
The speed certainly surprises a lot of people in larger, more expensive cars, which can be fun. Great for overtaking, and useful on the motorway.
Steering feels very heavy compared to other cars these days, but it actually isn't, and once you get used to it everything else feels over-assisted. Nice quick rack, you don't really need to shuffle your hands except when parking. Gearchange is nice. Pedal layout good for H&T. Seating position a bit upright for my tastes, but ok.
Turn in is not great, but it's never anything other than predictable in the handling department. I'll take acceleration over outright on-the-ragged-edge handling for road use, any day. A lot of reviews moan about the traction control having no "off" switch, but really...? You have to provoke it to activate it, so it really doesn't intrude on the fun factor on the road.
Space inside is surprising - no problems getting 4 adults in. Basically you can have luggage, or passengers, but it's a lot bigger than you'd think.
Probably the worse thing is that the A-Pillar is massively obstructive at junctions and on roundabouts - it can hide whole cars, so you have to make sure to look around it.
Overall, not perfect, but a real fun little car.

Is it a CZT hit with the ugly stick?. My daughter had the 1.5 turbo CZT. It did go well but was unbearably noisy & seemed short of a gear. 70mph on the motorway was not a pleasurable experience. If you just want it for B road blasts it is great. But if you use motorways I'd suggest you include one on a test drive!
Depreciation is truly awful. Expect to lose at least 50% after 2 year's.
So not a fan here. A Mini cooper is a far better buy in my opinion & far cheaper to own due to less depreciation.

I drove a demo about 2 months back. It's a proper little rocket ship and ripe for a tuning. I was properly surprised how much grunt it had for such a toy of a car. I wasn't overly impressed with the interior but hey ho. I doubt you'll get much more fun for the money they're asking. I actualy slightly preferred the Suzuki Swift sport VVT i drove on the same day though . I'm seriously considering getting the Ralliart Colt or the Swift to use as a daily driver.

Was that the cabrio? I drive mine on the m-way daily, and it's fine, certainly not noisy, nor would I say it lacks a gear. The swift sport on the other hand definately needed a 6th...Depreciation is truly awful. Expect to lose at least 50% after 2 year's.

Probably a good point on depreciation, I bought mine 18 months old and it did seem a bargain
Mini cooper S is slightly faster, ordinary cooper is rather slower.

The swift definately handles better, really nice chassis. Much slower though, alas.Jimboka said:

The motorway noise is partly due to the Eagle F1 tyres they fit as standard to the CZT which are very very loud. Even then I think your description is a bit extreme. Changing the tyres helps a lot. Agreed it doesn't have luxury barge silent cruising but I drove mine down to the south of France over a couple of days and it was a comfortable and easy experience (OK the traffic sucked but that wasn't the cars fault!)Depreciation is truly awful. Depreciation isn't that bad if you buy nearly new, and mini cooper is a slouch in comparison (and a cooper S is a lot more expensive to start with)
I test drove the older 1.5CZT 4 years ago. I was very dissapointed, and actually bought a Skoda Fabia VRS which was a far better car IMO.
It felt numb to drive, and the A pillars and dash was like an MPV.
Power wasnt that brilliant, even the standard 130BHP VRS felt a lot more urgent.
I would of hoped they have made lots of changes to make it any good, but it will still have those stupid MPV front triangle windows and blind spots.

I own a Ralliart Colt and have never regretted buying it!more expensive metal.
On an average daily run I'll get 40+ mpg, and have managed on one occasion to hit 47 around town! Mine costs me just over £50 with V Power to fill from empty and as long as you don't get Mitsubishi to fix it then the parts aren't expensive.
I would recommend one definitely, only drawback is that it's noisy over 70mph but it's a small car so you can't expect it to be too quiet. But for a lot less money you can really embarrass some pricier hot hatches, add a couple of relatively cheap performance parts and it can be an ST/VXR killer
