Interesting tip on the site that I followed when my gearbox was out for a new clutch a while ago is to fill the box with BMW M5 engine oil (10w60). They reckon it's THE oil to use. Don't know if I actually noticed a tremendous difference but it does shift smoothly and pretty quiet for a 90 ZF - just a little whine in first.
