VW 1.8 20V tick over
Discussion
Can anyone advise please?....
I bought a 98 VW Passat 1.8 about 10 days ago with 53k on the clock. All runs fine apart from tick over is too low and occasionally it stalls coming up to a junction turning the steering wheel.
It tends to be worse when cold but still does it warm.
Idle is set at about 700rpm and drops to about 4-500 when I dip the clutch before (usually) recovering. Sometimes under load it stalls.
Any help to adjust the tick over and/or disconnect the over-run fuel cut off would be much appreciated

Hmm...dunno but it sounds like the idle speed control valve is a bit iffy to me.
I dont know where theyre located on these lumps tho.
If you can find it youll need to clean the carbon and oil deposits out with carburettor cleaner.
It could also be an air leak in one of the hose thats giving you problems too.
Check them all for splits etc
