Claremont's 215mph Callaway is sold!
Discussion
One less Callaway in the country, they're getting rarer...
Here's the news for whoever wants to know more:

Was up for 40 grand as you probably know, can't imagine the guy paid anything like that (IMHO).
And a few more pics of the car at:

(Bit of a cr*p link, the second one, hope it works)

I knew the guy, Brian (sorry can't remember surname), who originally had the "special" work done by Callaway on this car. He's an extremely likeable guy. Maybe others here know him too.
The story goes, anyone correct me if I'm wrong, that he had the B2K and then spent some serious extra dosh on the car, and I mean serious.
Brian was pretty active and well known in CCCUK in the early 90's, one year (at least) the car won best of show at the Nats, 93 maybe. Anyway, ran into the guy again a few years later (98?) on one of my visits to Corvettes at Carlisle. He was trying to sell the car to Corvette Mike I believe. In the end I know Brian wasn't one of Reeves Callaway's best fans. Read into that what you like!

My very good friend Chris Mudd sorted out the calibration on the car for the then owner Brian Neighbour after it came back from Callaway.
He had sent it to the US where Reeves Callaway extracted a HUGE pile of money for updating it with the latest engine and trans mods plus the new style body. I spent some time with Brian at Bloomington a few years ago, he was really p****d off that Callaway had charged him $1000.00 for fuel used to road test his car! He told me then that the car owed him £90K.....................

A while ago I emailed Callaway to find out a little about the car. Interestingly I had heard Brian Neighbour's name mentioned in Corvette circles but never met him or saw his car before. Must have been well-known!
Anyway here's Reeves Callaway's response (rather scary if you think of the consequences):
Subject: Re: Special 1989 Callaway Twin Turbo
This car was taken into the shop as an update for a man from the UK,
as the update progressed, and before the car was shipped back, the
owner kept finding new assignments for us and as a result the car had
many configurations that were non standard. Essentially it was the
best and most powerful version of a standard twin turbo that we could
construct at the time; with the limitations being that anything more
powerful would have required even more work to things like driveline,
axles, brakes, chassis, safety..and on and on... So we drew the line
at some major changes. the front mounted intercoolers ( as opposed to
being over the engine) was the most significant change. then the
software to allow for the extra power, then some internals of the
engine like stronger crank and connecting rods. All quite expensive
and the tinishing fouch was the black AeroBody. Al in all quite a nice
a definitely powerful car. No doubt it would do 215 mph.
However, its an experiment, and as such has some substantial risk in
ownership, no parts available, not real knowledge of its configuration.

Sorry Malc but this sums up everything I have heard over the years about Reeves Callaway. If you are coming up at the weekend i will tell you the story!
Pete, hope you don't mind me posting a link to your recent post on corvetteactioncenter.com

Some damn good pics you've taken. Just goes to show how different that Callaway is from a regular one. There are a LOT of differences.
