Fuel tank removal on a V8S - easy or body off?

Hi all,

Father in law's V8S will need its fuel tank removed soon. Does a V8S fuel tank slide out through one wheelarch, or are we talking about lifting the body to remove it?

There is a seperate cradle at the rear - exhaust off, disconnect fuel filer & pipes, 4 bolts and it drops straight down. Theoretically. Thats a Haynes Manual description. 'Refitting is a reverse of removal'

There's also a couple of bolts through the rear of the cradle that I forgot - one in the boot (drivers side) and the other in the cavity under the boot where the fuel pump sits (passenger side).

I think thats it - but if not and I've forgot something its all reasonably straightforward.

Hardest bit is probably peeling back the carpet in the boot to get at hose clips on filler tube, those guys at TVR loved their glue !

Guess its obvious but exhaust will have to come off too.

When refitting make sure that you fit the filler tube as you lift the tank back in. It's hard work putting the tube on otherwise. Don't ask me how I know!

When the tank is off, is the filler tube free to take of as well?

I should be removing my tank this weekend as it is full of rust and looking down the filler tube there is a lot of rust on that.

Russ, yes the filler tube can be taken off.

If your tank is full of rust it can be repaired. I did mine a while ago and it's still fine.

That's how I always do it, but it isn't working right. Go and try it. I've just done a couple of tests just in case it got fixed after I last tried. Tried different searches for Fuel, Paint, Rust, Indicators etc and all of them only return stuff from April this year regardless of the number of years you select.
