Just had my car supercharged...
Discussion
Started life as a '57 plate R with the Super Touring pack... had the Sinclaires Ronin/Katana kit installed..
Now its an absolute beast.. dyno'd at 210hp at the hubs, it just goes like stink.. there is power in every gear, no longer have to wring its little engine out to get anywhere...
And the supercharger whine... well, lets just say I get a little a Simon LeBon everytime I hear it...
Absolutely worth it (no buyers remorse here) and an excellent job done by Sincs...

Hi,
Toying with the idea of buying an Elise SC but wondering if the aftermarket option could be better? Do you mind me asking what the kit is? how much does it cost including fitting? is it much different to the factory set up?
Regards
Nick

Depends on your budget.. personally I'd go down the route of buying a cheaper R and then supercharging.. better value for money if you ask me.. nothing wrong with the factory SC, but you do get more power out of the aftermarket kit, for less/same money.
I've got Sinclaires Ronin (Katana in the US) kit, which has been around for a few years now and has been installed in numerous cars here in the UK. Output is extimated at about 250 hp, vs the 220 you get with the factory kit.
Cost is between £4-5K including installation and VAT (going up soon).
Not sure on the technical aspects of the kit, if youre on Seloc have a browse there, or give Sincs a call..
Well worth it !
If youre in the Hampshire/Surrey/Berks area be happy to give you a demo (no, dont work for Sincs, just enthusiastic
)..-Alex

If your worried about aftermarket, you can actually buy the official lotus S/C kit for around 4k i think, it's certainly cheaper to buy a standard car and then fit either the lotus kit to make it a S/C or Ronin kit, the Ronin is more powerful and less money to i thinkToying with the idea of buying an Elise SC but wondering if the aftermarket option could be better? Is the car a daily all weather driver? Considering the basic charger for my VX220 take it to 210bhp/195lbs from the 150bhp/145lbs I'm worried that it'll make it a less easy going road car, i.e. in the rain tonight I was happily hussling it along as the power delivery is so placid. Worried the increased torque will mean having to always drive with much more caution except in ideal conditions?
Does anyone have any experience with the Turbo Technics supercharger conversion for the K series? The Ronin is for the Toyota engine only, right; as is Lotus's own development? They appear to be roughly the same cost, and quite a good idea for this car. Any known issues, etc, etc.....?

Beak,
Did you go for any aftermarket induction/exhaust etc?
S/C is absolutely on my wishlist, but I track my car and I don't want a noise increase to put me above the decibel limit at tracks like Goodwood... so I'm collecting stories on what power can be got for what noise increase with what mods...
Thanks in advance,
Tol

Hey Alex, thanks for that! Has really got me thinking now..
I am in Surrey as it happens, live in Leatherhead and work in Weybridge so do let me know if/when you are about! Would love to take a closer look!
Would not be a daily driver!
Cheers and enjoy!

Out of interest, any idea what adding a RoninSC does to the value of the car?
Nothing as aftermarket stuff (exc exhausts/induction) puts a lot of people off, The offical lotus S/C upgrade will probably make the car a bit more desirable as it's an offical factory upgrade, but the kit is like 4k or so i think, and will probably add about 1 k to the price of your car at bestGassing Station | Elise/Exige/Europa/340R | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
