Just wondering who you guys could recommend for insurance from your experiences of insuring modified Corvettes? I know we'd all like to get away with not declaring mods. Bit difficult if you've got something real obvious like a great big supercharger on top of your engine! Any comments Nige?

Anyone recommend anyone? My experience before when phoning around was that I couldn't get a satisfactory answer when I phoned around regarding a modified vette I saw for sale. As soon as I said "modified" the line went quiet. As soon as I said "supercharged" almost everyone said "engineers report, we don't cover that type of mod, etc, etc".

Bit strange 'cos I was trying the advertisers in Street Machine who reckon they cover modded cars. Perhaps they single out people with mega horsepower cars as maniacs. Surely that's discrimination Mr Blair...

I had no trouble with the old Callaway because it was taken as a factory conversion. Apart from insuring for increased value (over a regular 90 vette) I didn't pay any extra!

Be interested to read see any recommendations.

Just re-insured my car on Friday. The usual suspects are Hill House Hammond and Adrian S. Flux, and Bennett on the high street. They weren't bothered about my mild mods but all had specialists if a unique quote was needed.

BTW, my premium went up by £125 this year despite my calling everyone I could find ! Oh well, at least next year I will get old fart rates for being over 40...

Just had to renew mine as well. Mine was less this time round. Still wih A.flux but only after they price matched/undercut another quote. Also filled out a modification form for the brakes this time - thought I should. Made no difference to the premium.

Stevenage insurance Co,,other than the few quid they put it up every year they are ok,,ive been with them for 5 years now and judging by everyone elses quotes they might be a few quid dearer but the up side is they know me and renewal comes and go's without a fuss.

Hi Cliff, actually I used to insure my Corvette with Stevenage up until 2 years ago when I had a '93 LT1 and my renewal premium went from £380 to over £900!!!!!!!! The reason they gave was that "there are a lot more claims on American cars now"

My circumstances hadn't changed and they assures me it was the best quote. I didn't even ask them when I bought my Callaway though I still use them to insure my Vauxhall Ashtray.

Funny the different opinions about the same people. Almost as if they just make up the rates as they go along...

My black modded LT4 is insured with Adrian Flux and I told them all about the mods including supercharger etc and the cost of the premium is about £800.

My Z06 is with Hill Hose Hammond and again it is about £800.

Who do you insure with now Malc, are they easy to deal with,,i once dealt with NU and had 4 vehicles with them and when i renewed it was always hard work as they either lost or misplaced imformation and records,Nightmare!!
Ive had the feeling from your last posts you could be looking for a replacement and if the car Geoff is reffering too is the one i think it is then its a Gem and would be put to best use at Elvington

I'm on limited mileage (5000 per annum). I have 3 months left on my insurance and am within 1500 miles of my limit. So I've worked out that I can go to the Surrey & Kent meets once a month plus a few visits to the local a month. Was going to ask how much to increase the mileage but at the mo every time I want to take my car out the weather is shite and no-one else my way is taking their cars out so I might not cover the miles anyway?

My limited miles was 7,500 per year until a couple of years ago then they put it down to 5,000 stating that anything over 5,000 per year was excessive for a collectors/classic car.

Looks like people are starting to clock on about the car I'm interested in

Mind you I'm not getting too involved at the moment because I have other financial priorities that will probably have to come first. If it wasn't for those I'd probably be jumping at the chance.

Other (call me sentimental) reason is that I actually love my old Callaway too (can't afford both and only have room for one car) and I have thought about selling it before but always cop out as I know I would't be able to replace it, not with a '90 anyway.

It was the first time I've been really excited about buying a car since I bought my 455 HO TransAm years ago.

There's also always the possibility of getting more power out of my twin turbos - some guys in the US are getting a LOT more power with minimal mods at quite low cost too.

So the jury's out at the moment, seeing about a mortgage later, better put cars out of my mind for a sec : (
